yes it would be pointless against the DSII but it might give you the time needed to launch an offensive againts the DSI. Also though would a night cloak be any good against the beam as they suck up light, or would they be vapourized?

The Falcon's laser cannons worked perfectly while within the Nightcloak. I doubt a superlaser beam would be affected.

It wouldn't be affected at all, both the superlaser and the Falcon's laser cannons are the same type of weapon, and neither are true lasers.

The orbital nightcloak is only used against primitive worlds.
As a weapon per se it isn“t worth much, but to cause primitives to surrender in awe, it might have its uses.

The orbital nightcloak is a weapon of cruelty, pure and simple.

You could use rockets and put it into orbit like a asteroid around the planet outside the shields ao that if it was hit the beam would be sufficientally(sp?) slowed that when it hit the shields that it would dissapate.
Isn't that stuff some kind of super-dense neutronium? Wouldn't that
slightly fuck up gravity for the planet's inhabitants?
If it was of normal mass, it's still a ridiculous defense. DS simply fires from a better angle, or waits for the shield to orbit away.
Hell it can just plain shoot the shield.
All the energy has to go somewhere, and instead of a planet shattering beam, you now have a planet shattering chunk of armor (or several pieces of planet shattering armor) accelerated at you.
For a good laugh, the DS commander could tractor the shield to decelerate it...

The Sun Crusher's armour is not neutronium-based:
The Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia wrote:Quantum-crystalline armor
the type of armor used to shield the Sun Crusher, it is made from layering just a few densely-stacked atoms on top of another layer that is phase-shifted. It is nearly indestructible.

And those 2 are? DS vs. stars and DS recharge/reload time?
DS vs. a star:
Exactly what this would do to a star is unknown, since we don't know how the DS beam works and how it transfers energy to matter.
It would be pretty damn bad for anybody living in the system, since the DS beam is 250 billion times stronger than what the sun puts out a second.
As far as "blowing up the sun" goes, a star's gravitiational binding energy is too much for the DS beam alone, but the energy of the beam would increase the rate of fusion in the star, wouldn't it? (This is what a few people used to claimed happened to Alderaan

.)
Would firing the Death Star at the sun cause a supernova-like event?
DS recharge time:
And finally, the Death Star releases 1E38 J of energy from its primary weapon, which could be recharged in a "matter of minutes" (ref. Star Wars Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels) for DS2, as opposed to a "matter of hours" for DS1. More than 60 minutes would obviously be regarded as a matter of hours rather than minutes, and more than 24 hours would obviously be regarded as a matter of days rather than hours. Therefore, a maximum for the recharge time of DS1 is 24 hours, and a maximum for the recharge time of DS2 is 60 minutes. This necessitates power output on the order of 2E34 watts for DS2 and 1E33 watts for DS1. This is 72 million and 3 million times the power output of Earth's sun respectively.

Mike's Power Generation Page
The Sun Crusher's armour is not neutronium-based:
Okay, so it's possible to; yet still not a good idea to put a continent sized plate of armor in orbit above your head.

IIRC, Quantum Armour is hidieously expensive, even in fairly small quantities.

so's a planet

.
but I get your points. I lose
