Also, SB should really perma-ban Laird. I have never, ever seen him post any useful content in the 2 years and five months I've been a member. Maybe I'm overlooking something just because I think he's a jackass, but I don't see any compelling reason to allow him to continue.

I run this place like a business; when you behave badly, you are severely chastised (ie- flamed). If you continue to behave badly, you are demoted (ie- rank adjustment). If you make yourself into a real pain in the ass, you get fired (ie- banned forever).

Laird never did anything warenting a permanent ban AND Johan Alm was in charge at the time and he ran things that he never felt anyone should be permanently removed. Kier somewhat changed things and Mackie was partially banned because he was cracking jokes about WTC (which is IMO worse then what Laird did with you).
The reason why most people don't get expelled is because Bans at SB are typically doubled or trippled after each offense.

Might not often post "useful" things, but he hasn't posted anything worth a permanent ban. Mackie earned a permanent ban after he joked about the WTC deaths. He was on probation from a temp ban on that incident and when he didn't follow the rules, Tron banned him.
In the 2 years you have been at SB, Laird has been banned for more then 4 months time IIRC.

Unfortunately, I'll admit that SB's one weakness is our tendency to discuss things like ban as if we were a committee; we have our disciplinarians/hawks and we have our softies/doves, and they almost always clash when it comes to handing down perm bans.
Mackie got a perm ban after repeated rules violations and shows of bad tastes, including posting directions to making illegal drugs, bragging that he sold them, bragging that a kid ODed and died because of what he sold the kid, and turning 9-11 into a laughing matter.
Laird's pulled some bad shit (and he just got another ban for crossing Tron again and flaming LordChaos) but even he hasn't managed to do what Mackie has.
