Did you know??

John Williams uses a brief bit of that very theme in Episode 1? Next time you listen to Anakin and Group to Coruscant, about halfway through, you will hear the opening theme of Battlestar Galactica. It's very brief.
Yeah, Mr. Williams cheats all the time. Well, I call it cheating - he just reuses his own music. He's on crafty bastard that's for sure.

Anyways, for those who don't know the specs, his subwoofer's amp alone is 250W. The GFA-555II has 200W/channel and the GFA-535II has 60W/channel.

Hrmm...he uses a phantom center it seems...

Considering verbal communication has failed me, I shall now resort to secondary communication.

Someone give me a bat, I'll communicate with Mike via Morse Code... each "short" will be a tap and each "long" will be a full wallop to the head.

Yes. BTW, wattage figures alone can be rather misleading. Loudspeakers are highly reactive loads, not load resistors; a low-quality 300W/ch amp can get its ass kicked by a high-quality 100W/ch amp.

I have a CSA-certified hard-hat.

I know. I've heard good things about Adcom amps, but they're a bit too expensive for me. I'm considering getting a NAD integrated amp (which list their continuous output at 8 ohm, and max output at 8, 4 and 2 ohms, which seems good). Maybe when I have more money I'll get an old GFA-535II and use the NAD as a preamp.

I remember reading a test - a cheap Sony receiver that was advertised as 100W started clipping at 31W(!)

EDIT: And yes, to anyone reading this thread, follow Mike's advise and avoid Bose. My dad bought a set for home theatre on "sale" - and frankly they aren't worth the money. They don't sound bad, per say, just not worth what he spent.

Steve, sending a long string of 'O' letters won't do much for communications, now will it?

All I know is my PC speakers can be clearly heard through three cinderblock walls on full blast. That's good enough for me, since both are 18 inches from my head.
