No, I didn't miss that, but frankly the difference between 10,000 and 64,000 is minor, especially when you consider the vast difference of quality between the two, and the fact that Rome has scaled cities to fight in, seige weapons, dogs, elephants, and cavalry, and will be designed with modding in mind. Then there's the new point to point map system, rather than the old province-style maps.
Cossacks has all kinds of artillery, navy, as well as infantry and cavarly. Cossacks 2 will have
Cossacks 2 website wrote:For the first time Cossacks II will allow you to built and control a whole empire with provinces, cities and villages.
The cities are connected with roads, which have a big strategic relevancy as trade routes, which can be served by the enemy.
The world will be full of boisterous life, you can spectate animated citizens and merchants doing their jobs.
The life in the cities and villages will follow a automated economy system and there will be (automatic) production lines.
Because of that the game will be more realistic, as anything seen before in the RTS genre.
Diplomacy, played only a small role in Cossacks and American Conquest, will become more important.
Without combat formations it'll be no more possible to win a battle in Cossacks II.
The formation pallete will be enlarged, among other things with a marching formation, in which the soldiers are able to walk faster on the roads.
The underground and the terrain influence the efficiency of the soldiers.
Moral and experience of the troops play also a big role.
In addition, It's possible to lead the famous generals and emperors on the battlefields of Europe
Hotfoot wrote: And, well, let's face it. Rome: Total War lends itself to a Middle Earth Total Conversion better than Cossacks does.
True, but only becuase its based in a similar time period (its a lot easiet to convert a legionaire than it is a musketeer).

The only thing it's likely to have better than Rome is naval battles, and that's questionable. Morale, unit experience, and generals have played a part in the Total War series from the get-go. The economy is under your control, as you play the ruler of whatever faction you choose to play as. You determine the growth of the cities and your military production, it's not automatic. As you make changes to cities, and they develop, the landscape itself will change. Lush forests can turn into a sprawling metropolis or a barren waste with a fort in the center.

You're only lying to yourself if you think that's the only reason. Yes, the time period is a factor, but the fact of the matter is that the combination of all the different things that will be included in Rome will make a Middle Earth conversion dead easy. Already there are Elephants, scale cities and defenses (a scale recreation of Helm's Deep is sure to be one of the first modding projects), plus a plethora of seige weaponry and tools.

The 3D Models can take up a few screens as well. Of course, Rome: Total War lets you zoom out farther than Cossacks does, apparently.

But then we can already see that...

Cossacks 2 will have 3 levels of zoom:

http://www.cossacks2-net.de/eng/screens ... .php?id=75
Furthest zoom level

http://www.cossacks2-net.de/eng/screens ... .php?id=74
Medium zoom

http://www.cossacks2-net.de/eng/screens ... .php?id=73
Closest level of zoom.

As for the LotR mod, that is waht I meant when I said that the time period is similar. Total War has units that are much closer to LotR than the Cossacks units.

Have a very nice day.

The game I did anticipate rather highly was Master of Orion III. Bought it a while back and tried to play it, but I couldn't figure it out and so just gave up...

The only game I'll be getting soon is Victoria, then maybe the new Mario Kart game after it gets a little cheaper.

I tremble with anticipation at the thought of Madden NFL 2004 under my Christmas tree. Hello, Owner Mode. Still not sure if I'll take the Eagles to the Super Bowl in Franchise or go full blown Owner Mode and turn the Cardinals into a dynasty, complete with a move to Los Angeles...

You know, with Max Payne 2, Call of Duty, KotOR already out and my work burying me so that I haven't time to play the above titles, I really don't have time to look forward to anything. :(

Mind you, well, um, Rome Total War screenies look like, um, WOW! Mind you, much as I love Roman and Middle Earth eras, I'd love to see a more modern wargame along those lines as well.

The most impressive thing about Rome: Total War is that it will perform the same as Medieval, on the same kinds of systems. That is just incredibly good, if true.

One thing I don't like about the Rome screenshots is that the graphics are so good that you can tell that every member of every unit is identical, down to their horses/faces. I wish this weren't the case. Another thing that would be pleasant, but which I don't expect, would be for the cliched 'Imperial' type legionary uniform to be only for a specific period. Roman legions used this very well known outfit for several decades, not for their entire history, goddamit.
