I mentioned Mercs and Nym because I think we've been overexposed a bit on Boba/Jango Fett since AoTC came out.
Plus, Nym has a history vs. the TF, has a group of pirates werkin' with him and a small group of fairly bad ass fighters to use to wage guerrilla combat.

Howzabout the Average Joe? Granted, it takes an exceptional author to make the story of a random schlub seem interesting... well, I guess I'm just saying that I wish there were more exceptional SW authors. Think of

Well, okay, maybe not. But we're always seeing SW books told from the top down... we get to see how the high officials, politicians, and officers see things. I'd like to see a story told from the perspective of... I don't know, a pilot, who ISN'T part of Rogue Squadron, ISN'T descended from a powerful Jedi of yore, and ISN'T destined to alter the shape of the galaxy. I'd like a more Tom Clancy take on things... let's see how the gears and cogs of the Star Wars machine function!

Or just do an anthology of Clone Wars stories, like with Tales from Jabba's Palace.

I'd love to see some books about the Vong war told from the perspective of a bunch of ratings on a Republic Star Destroyer. They would serve in some of the major fleet engagements of the war- Coruscant, Bilbringi, so on and so forth. A third of them would die by the end of the novel, and their only rewards for serving in the war would be a raise and another tour of duty cleaning up the mess.

I agree with Wong. I found "Shatterpoint" particularly interesting in that we had a significant portion of a planetary population willing to trade the technically representative government of a Republic for the Seperatist's "suggestions" if only to be permitted to continue internal warfare.
As for the new alien species, I fear a revival of X-Files-style plots, wherein one alien race is being pursued by another to extend the series. We also see this in Star Trek: Voyager (Borg and that Species), Lilo & Stitch, Earth: Final Conflict, StarGate (the books), Robotech, and probably much more.

Personally, I'd like to see less stuff that involves characters in the film. Jesus, how hard is it to make new and interesting characters? Could we have one Star Wars novel series or trilogy that centers around a character who is, in no way, shape or form, involved with the film characters? Could we perhaps follow an Imperial fighter squadron or special ops unit?
