The game itself is fun as hell, especially if you join a group. However, I've had some heavy tech issues as of late. I think I'm one of few with it, (think it was router issues). Other than that, if your into Star Wars then get it. I hate paying a monthly fee, and RPGs in general but I've had a lot of fun with it.

You just made my day.

I don't mind the monthly fee, and I like RPGs but have never played an MMORPG.

Aren't all MMORPGS like that though?

Why do people complain about paying? It can't be the cost cause they probably fork out more a month on worthless shit they never use. What about people that golf? Go to gyms? You pay a hell of a lot more a year to do that and get less fun. MMORPGs I can pay hours a day every day, great past time. When I play a game every day for every week every month I think I am getting my worth out of it. I hear they intend on doing a download version where you don't get a free month but just get it and start paying/playing. That is if the initial price is what bugs you. I think people dislike it just because they don't understand it. "Pay for a game more than once? wtf? my UT2003 doesn't cost to play! lamerz" <- Typical attitude if you ask me.

Paying a monthly fee is an issue when you're paying for an advertised product that's not delivering, alot of people feel they are paying to be beta testers and paying for an almost half broken game. For example, I got the game a few days after it came out, I went up the line of an "elite" player profession "commando". First the first month or 2 I couldn't even advance my character because the profession was broken, and other game breaking issues. It did get better but I feel the game was released a few months early. It has great potential but the devs don't seem to be able to put it all together, alot of bugs and broken mechanics, they outright admitted they don't know how to fix. That and they are copping out and making it EverQuest in space

That and Sony/Verant customer support is pretty terrible, you just get the impression they trying to keep you stuck in a timesink to milk as much money before you get fed up and quit. The player vs player side is still broken with no incentives, and the player vs environment side is broken/copy and pasted with the major monthly quests not even finished or buggy, each patch I found they did added more broken content that fixed content. Again great potential in the hands of the right people, which it isn't in right now

Don't know. I only saw the one on the homepage.
That one has two guys in the desert. One with a double bladed saber and one with the regular. Force lightening is used by the guy in the Raiden style hat.

NWN is NOT an MMORPG.

So if you join as an Imperial, can you eventually work your way up to Star Destroyer captain?

Not yet, Imperial Army (or Stormtroopers) only. I assume there will be an option to join the Navy when the space expansion pack is released. You can get up to colonel, however.

How much power could they possibly give you though?
I mean, if you become a star destroyer captain and hook up with some more, you could conceivably take out a planet. I don't think they're willing to go that far, nor piss of that many people.

Too many of these jerks will be wasting all their online time trying to become a Jedi. Me, my "Death Squadron" will take out Tatooine at the earliest opportunity!

Its funny because its true. The lengths people have gone to get their Jedi slots (who are promptly killed by Imperial troops because they're stupid enough to wave their lightsabers around in public). But on my server (Scylla) we've got Tatooine locked down reasonably well. Oddly enough, its Naboo that's a breeding ground for those Rebel scum.

One more week though and the foolish Jedi won't be able to draw their lightsabers without getting a TEF, JN.

Against my better judgement, I bought the game this weekend. (Bad Wayne. Bad!) I haven't read the docs completely yet, but I plan on being Imperial, and decided to begin on Corellia. Anyone have any advice on an up and coming Imp with aspirations on commanding a Star Destroyer one day?

I haven't bought the game yet, but against my better judgement I'm serriously considering it. If they ever add Ugor as a player species, I'll be obligated to buy it no matter what.
Anywho, I haven't read a whole lot of details on the eventual space expansion, and while I wouldn't keep your hopes up of commanding such a large capital ship, but I certainly wouldn't count it out of possibility, especially since Colonel is as high up in rank as Naval Captian if I recall, so if you could be able to take charge of warships, that should reasonably include the ever-popular StarDestroyer. Just don't get your hopes up of it being called an Imperator class.

Bwahahahaaa!! Inform Lord Vader we have fresh meat.
Corellia ain't the greatest place for would-be Imperials. You can hook up with a recruiter and Imperial missions in Bela Vistal, but other than that there's not much of interest there for we Imps. Good places to start, IMO:
Theed, Naboo
Kadaara, Naboo
Keren, Naboo (unless you decide to play on Scylla, the largest Rebel guild on this server lives nearby)
Bestine, Tatooine
Restuss, Rori
Restuss is nice and secluded with a quaint community and a good place to build up new characters, particularly Imperials. Coupled with the fact that a small Imperial guild has set up a player-made city with a
massive Imperial base complex nearby, and its hard to go wrong. Local Rebel operatives tend to be "low level" as well and gives your requisitioned Stormtroopers and other equipment the edge.

Funny you should mention that. I had a plan at one time that could allow people to captain Star Destroyers. Hell, it's the height of the Empire right? There were 25k of them bastards right? Hell, There's no way they have that many on one server, Imperial at least. The team wanted suggestions of how to get more people to be Imperial. Well here ya go!!!

The scale isn't as great as you think in terms of commanding ships, it will most likely be small freighters at most, its almost impossible to get multimanned crew with lag and latency issues to work. Even now with player vehicles, only single seaters, you can't have others on your vehicles.

They seriously need to talk to the Battlefield 1942 guys about vehicles. i mean they have full up freakin battelships and aircraft carriers (with 4 and 5 seats respecitvely) operating online all the time. This is not to mention the APCs and tanks which are multi-person as well.
