You may want to check this site out http://www.merzo.net/index.htmlIt shows that the Trade Federation ships are twice the length of the Star Destroyers.

The fact that the fed battleship is larger than a ISD doesn't mean it is the better warship. From the encyclopedia at theforce.net (I think its source is the ICS, but I haven't read that):

Weaponry is limited by the original, non-military configuration, and consists of 42 quad-laser batteries spaced around the outer hull.

ISDs have much heavier weapons

Exactly. Quads are KT-level. ISDs have 200 GT heavy cannons.

Also, Trade-fed "battleships" have fairly weak armour and shields. In Cloak of Deception, one is heavily damaged by a gunship.
