I have checked mine, and it does not describe the destruction of the generators at all. It only mentions that their walls were cracking and later that Veers targeted them.

Given that Hobbie mentioned that the Rebels were beginning the mass retreat which happened after the fact the shield generators were destroyed...and this is why he drove his speeder into Veers' AT-AT...I'd say it happened.

Wrong. A story IIRC called "Lord Vader's Return" featured Vader being briefed by a young Palpatine after the failure of Yavin. There was no way Vader as a Sith Lord did not know of the power of Life Transfer, and there was also no way he didn't notice Palpatine's wild aging habits since he began assuming clone shells shortly before the Battle of Yavin.

As Lucas allows the use of Hobbie and Veers in the EU, I would say that they've overruled the novel.

Don't tell that to Kurgan, he refuses to awknowledge the GFFA is 25,000 years and that the 1000 year quote from AOTC can be interpreted. He favours throwing out evidence where NOT absolutely necessary, which is irrational.

Oops! Sorry, it seems that we were talking about different novels. (I was talking about the TESB novelisation.) However, both in the movie and its novelisation, the mass retreat began before the destruction of the generators.

Actually the movie does override the novel...rereading the novel wherein he Veers get killed is at the point he contacts Vader. So in the novel...Veers' walker does not shoot down the shield generators.

In the movie...he destroys the generator after talking to Vader which shows him clearly alive.
