stands for anno domini actually (might be wrong, of course). i don't recall the exact translation off the top of my head though.

Yeah, i know it means anno domini, i was just told recently i was wrong for thinking it started when Jesus was born and it is in fact from when he died. (I thought that it meant from his birth too)
