Well, there's bombardier beetles, but I don't think a dragon could do the same thing on that scale without blowing up its face.
Bombadier beetles don't shoot fire, rather just a really hot noxious anal emission.

The umbilical cord could be the Yolk sac or the portion of the Embryo that stores cellular waste. Of course, yolk sacs tend to be a tadbit bigger. A dragon would make sense to be endothermic, especially if they reach the sizes claimed in myth.

You gotta figure that something like that is worth a lot of money. It's one-of-a-kind. I don't think I've seen that kind of craftsmanship before, and certainly not from that time period, with indiarubber.
