Good point about Anakin Solo. Good book. Crappy death.
And the same goes for General Madine.
I thought that the most pointless death was that of Huckleberry Finn's father in the book. It seriously had no point, whatsoever, and it didn't even make any sense. How could Huck not have realized that the house was his own?
Dishonorable mentions go to the old lady in "Great Expectations," Mod (sp) Flanders from the Simpsons, and Alfred, from "Batman."

Richard Wakefield in the Rama series (can't remember which book).
All the Trek redshirts. Killed by inept leadership and/or by engineering malpractice.
B5's Dukhat. Inept leadership and engineering malpractice rolled into one.
This post had a conflict (409).

I can't mention anything that hasn't already been mentioned before. Well, except maybe for some of the Rogues and Wraiths.

Ditto. That was just crap.
I know. I'd have Jinn and Maul killing each in a last clash of blades.
I'd have had kenobi knocked down and more or less out, so it's Qui-gon vs Maul. They're fighting, Jinn slowly wearies, knowing if he doesn't take down Maul himself the sith'll get obi wan. So he makes a suicidal attack, he kills Maul but Maul deals him a mortal wound in return.
That would have been very good. It would have been respectful to both characters and set the stage for Obi Wan in ANH.
The only way for Qui Gon to defeat Maul is to try something he wouldn't think off, a move that would obviously end in Qui Gon's death. (It couldn't be too obvious though.) Maul still looks the bad ass and Qui Gon's death is more meaningul, Maul's death is more meaningul (less cheasy).

Every Mobster movie SINCE White Heat that hs used the Top of the World ma ending. It was kick ass when it was original, now I see every other crime movie, trying to emulate Scarface without realizing Depalma and Oliver Stone were ripping off a black and white flick.

I have no fucking Idea, at that moment I wanted to rip sepiroth's head off, it seriously pissed me off. And besides, she really didn't die, now did she. Momma healed her, and she shows up in the end after you kill Sepiroth.

IMHO it was one of the best and gripping moments in the game. (the way the game engine depicted her falling to the ground made me laugh, though.)
But well although she's not dead she also isn't very alive now is she?

Nope, it's like Arthur, she's resting, and now one with the planet.

It's in Rama Revealed that he is actuallly killed off. It's not a totally worthless death but damn near it. All it really did was underline that Nakamura was bad bad man. Which we already knew.

I thought anakin's death was kind of cool. It set up some really interesting story lines with the solo family in dispair. I wished the authors had pursued the "Jaina Solo Going Dark Side Out Of Grief and Dispair" angle a bit more. I would like to see the reacton of the Vong to experiencing a full-tilt Dark Jedi for the first time.
General Madine's death tops the list of crappy deaths. That whole book was just a debacle. So bad, in fact, I'm willing to just pretend it never happened. Who's with me?

Of, course. But they were entertaining if pointless.

Madines Death was badly written, being shot by a Hutt? Come on a Hutt can do better than that
Paplys death was a let down, a Dark Lord of The Sith dying screaming?
The deaths in any of the Dune Books
Paul, Leto I, Leto II, and all the Duncans etc. The worst was the way the Barron Harkonian dies, the fat kiddie fiddler deserved to die in a far nastier way.

Aeris in FFVII
Although Sepiroth is possibly the coolest bad guy in all of the sacred genre of Fantasy, the way he killed Aeris just kind of sucked. And if you MUST know, i cried.....

Well, at least she didnt die by Cloud slicing her, that would have sucked worse.
The stupidest death was of course, James T. Kirk. Whoever wrote that movie should be burned for the crime of stupid use of a the best ST character.

Yeah, I actually fell in love with Aeris. Thats why i cried... God! I fell in love with a video game character! But somehow I think i'm not the only person on SD.net who has done so.. Weirder shit has happened.
