SEIG ZI- I mean, THE EMPIRE!

The Empire has it all over the Alliance in all relevant factors. And no, one of those relevant factors is *not* morality.

I voted for the Rebellion. Yes, by the time of the NJO the New Republic was fucking up everything, and if they pulled their thumbs from out of their arses then several trillion people could be alive and kicking. But they weren't the rebels. Hell, the rebels even broke from the NR to fight the Vong.

There's a difference between the Rebellion (Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles, Admiral Ackbar etc) and the New Republic (Borsk Fey'Lya, Viqi Shesh, Dumb/Corrupt Aliens etc); it's the same difference between Palpatine's Empire ("hey, let's blow up Alderaan!") and Thrawn's/Pellaeon's Empire ("Let's not send waves of men to their deaths.").

Every heard of the Tie Defender? How about the Phantom?
Heard of them. Got Defender silhouettes on the hull of my B-wing. What's your point? 8)

It's a shame that they didn't expand more on that plotline.

Still have X-Wing vs Tie Fighter Rogue 9?

If so, find me the ship patch you can download that added the rest of the fighters, and you and me duel it out, and I'll show you what an Imperial fighter pilot can do in a Tie Defender

They didn't? Damn. There goes my hope for the NJO. I'm reading SbS and I figured the real rebels would rise up and say: "Screw this, we didn't fight and die just so a bunch of fuckers can piss all over our sacrifices."

I do know that Leia (I think) came up with the GFFA - Galactic Federation of Free Alliances or some such (and has the same acronym as you-know-what), but I don't recall which book it was formed, and I thought something really important would come of it.

X-Wing: Alliance, actually. And my CD cracked. I need to find myself another copy. And I don't have the Rogue Squadron crest as my avatar for nothing.

Sorry man. I didn't mean to spoil it for you. Anyways, that's just one of the many little things that annoyed me about the NJO. So many cool plots and ideas were introduced and then a book or two later they just faded away into the background with little or no more mention.

Bah, I was spoiled a long time ago. I try to steer clear of them, like I avoided all KOTOR threads because I didn't want the story spoiled for me. But with the NJO, I kept reading everyone's dislike for it before I read any spoilers, so I didn't mind as much when I did read certain spoilers. Spoilers are fine when they keep you safe from shitty writing.

And now that I've asserted I don't mind spoilers, you must elaborate on the badness of the NJO you alluded to in your above post. Specifically, what was the cool stuff that the writers forgot?

[EDIT] I just realised that this can be seen as a thread hijack, and I just wanted to apologise. If anyone can answer my question by PMing me I would be most appreciative.

Going strictly by the movies I voted for the Rebel Alliance. The GE was way too brutal (even against fellow humans, i.e. the destruction of Alderaan) to be allowed to exist. Taking all of the EU into account and the subsequent YV invasion, the GE probably could have defeated the YV without having to lose trillions of people in the process. It was a tough decision for that reason, but the RA is the better choice, in my opinion.

Does anyone know how many people died during the Galactic Civil War, btw?

I supported the Rebel Alliance -- but that doesn't mean I'd support the NR, at least the incarnation seen in the Expanded Universe. While having the NR show various troubles early on (Thrawn Trilogy) was fair, having them continue to be a bunch of incompetent buffoons throughout their entire existance was asking too much.

I'm not sure but the casualty rate couldn't have been as high as the Vong war.

How about "not in mass production"? The Defender is the best of the best for the empire. The X-Wing is the NR's workhorse.
So while ther defender is a superiro fighter there are only a few dozen of them in excisistence whereas there a hundreds of X-Wings out there.

oh and on-topic i support the Rebel Alliance, Then if i screw up i dont get force choked/force zapped/cruely tortured for the rest of my life.

That's why I like it. We've got so much in common.

If I lived in the galaxy I'd probably support the Alliance, because they are fighting to reestablish democracy.
I still like the Empire better, its coolness factor is just way higher.

I'll take the Alliance. I like rooting for the under dogs. Besides, what's more impressive, a government that can build a gigantic world-busting space station and then lose every battle they have one in, or an organization that can defeat said battle station with a handful of fighters?

GE. If I can't be an imperial Space Marine, might as well work for the next best ass kicker.

The Empire: And when our latest secret weapon, the Character Shield Disapator is assembled then we shall crush all in our path!

The Empire: Where a regular guy from the rim can aspire to command a battleship and crush all opposition.

The Rebellion: Where a regular guy from the rim can aspire to fly an obselete starfighter and fight impossible odds.

You've got a good point. I'd take the Rebellion over the Empire, although not necessarily what the Rebellion became (IE the NR).

Irrelevant. According to Rogue 9's post, RA fighters are better than Imperial ones. He didn't specify production rate, cost, or anything.

Work hard. You might get a TIE Defender :D

If you do, you are going to win. For one, it is a kickass fighter. For two, you getting it means you are in the top 1% of 1% of the Imperial Fighter Corps. Unless you bump into someone like Wedge - and even then, you would have to make a mistake for him to have a chance.

Even if you're the cream of the crop, well, Wedge is also that far up and might just outclass you anyways. Given roughly equal technology, the better pilot will probably win. There isn't that much difference between his X-Wing and your TIE/D.
