Without them, many symphonies would suck. Pracitically all of Star Wars' music would suck.
I just love bashing band instruments....it's so much fun when people react with shock and outrage and start yelling at me. I realize that symphonies would suck without the brass.
You you're a musician sadist?

I sincerely doubt it, not unless you`ve ever lived in Wichita. Great band names though, Bigger than Jesus, 5 Speed Rubber Monkey, Deep Floyd, 6 cents, Snatchrachet.......

5 speed rubber monkey is indeed a cool name.

I play the piano, and I can sing. I'm pretty good at it too. I think I can do 3 octaves, but I can only do about 2 without sounding like I was backed up with helium and kicked in the nuts.

I play the trumpet, and I can sing a dirty parody of Rocky Top Tennessee.

I used to play flute. (Yes, guys do play flute) However, I've already fulfilled my PA requirements, so I dropped band.

Had you not said before that you played viola, I still would have categorized you as a string player.
Anyways, I played a recorder in 4th grade...and I woul like to learn the following: Oboe, Cello, Piano, Bass guitar, Bassoon, and possibilty of flute and/or French horn. Trumpets, as well as most brass instruments, can be quite obnoxious...except maybe trombones, for whatever reason...hrm...? Clarinets = YUCK!
Yuck? Clarinet is MUCH better than oboe. Ick. Brass instruments are not obnoxious if played by an expert. Or at least someone who actually knows how to play it.

Clarinets, bassoon and oboe are not metal.

That's because you're a Georgia Bulldogs fan.
(btw, did you guys win or lose today? We barely got past Duke.)

I've known some very good male flutist. And I could see you as a flutist.

A win, against Vandy. Defense was somewhat under par, but the offense finally clicked today.

How many people have been in a band?
I've been in five, over the course of two years, for christ's sake. Not one of them made it to the stage.

I was in a band for a short time while I still played guitar. We played at some friends' parties, mostly heavy metal stuff.

From the way you phrased that, I would have to say chorus. I haven't read enough of your posts to make a complete decision.

I suck at musical instruments. I tried guitar and clarinet, and I sucked at both.

Guitar is a very difficult instrument to learn, especially if your hand-eye coordination isn't very good. It's best to start off with something like t-bone or trumpet.

'bone isn't really a good starting instrument. (unless you're already through your growth spurts.

) The slide is a bit hard for a kid to figure out at first. For a kid, trumpet is a good starting brass. Clarinet, sax and flute for woodwinds. And percussion is fun for everyone!

Duh.
I've been involved with music since the third grade. I studied music ed for 3.5 years in college. That was a bunch of hours of strictly MUSIC classes. Plus classes with no fucking credit that were required. I hated those.
