Gulf War I? Are you implying it's a miniseries or something?
Although, with with in office...
What? you think we're going to back down after all this sabre rattling?
The avalanche has already started.... rumble rumble......the war has
acquired a momentum of it's own....it can't be stopped now....
Actually the war which Sheppard called Gulf I really should be called the Second Persian Gulf war. Look at any book from the 1980's and what we today generally call the Iran Iraq war is called simply The Gulf War. Many still do call it that.
The almost certain upcoming invasion of Iraq could be called the Third Persian Gulf war, though it really is just a continuation of the second as there has be no peace treaty.

That may be true, but you're not a soldier and you haven't been in a war, so that doesn't explain why
you think it's cool. It's just gross as far as I'm concerned.
PS. Shep, do you have any interests besides violence and right-wing ranting? You know, like flesh-and-blood women, or cars, or stereos, or, well ... anything?

Science, sci-fi, two kids, and a wife. And I volunteer for the Boy Scouts. Frankly, I think that sounds a lot more well-rounded than
you, Shep.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, that it might be fake.
Then again, I've been learning that Real Life violence looks pretty fake.

I would have thought you'd be demonstrating against the Boy Scouts....
or is your gripe with the American Boy Scouts?
Anyway....I like trains, book collecting, and of course the ever popular
PC Game category...and of course, a dog and ferret....
Meh, rounded enough for
you, Wong?

Good to hear it, Best thing one can do to kids is to get them in the scouts and out blowing stuff up and shooting things
Well at least in the South(I got kicked out of my troop way back because I switched from Agnotstic(Which they tolerate) to Atheist)
But its a good thing to take young minds get them in nature, fifty miles form anything vaguly resembling a McDonals
Then leave them there and remind them next time be prepared

Considering that the Canadian Scouts are on the whole much more tolerant, I'd wager it's with American Scouts.

Correct. The American Boy Scouts refuse entry to atheists.

No. I don't see any humans or human-centred activities in your list of interests. That is precisely what I expected from you.

So what if I am not Mr. Popular? I don't feel the need to be insanely
popular, with parties over at my place every weekend.

No, but it does go along way towards explaining why you're an insensitive prick.

Who said anything about being insanely popular? I'm just talking about not being so goddamned anti-social. All of your attitudes toward your fellow human beings are misanthropic. You view people either as threats, obstacles, or targets, and you deride anyone who doesn't as a naive little fool. You believe women are inherently untrustworthy and it goes without saying that you snort with contempt at those who believe in romantic love. Is that really the way you want to go through the rest of your life?

There both directly copied from the same British organization.

Er...look at his new avatar, DW. BTW Shep, which site did you get that from? I've seen it before, but I can't quite place it.

But the American version is run by a bunch of borderline religious fundies. They've excluded atheists and gays, at least at the national level. Some of the councils have quietly ignored that though.

To Shep everyone else is a thing. He sees them as little cardboard cut outs created solely for the benefit of Shep. And he get's pissed if they don't fit into that fucked up world view.

Exactly. The Canadian Scouts tell you that you don't have to tell them what your religion (or lack thereof) is if you don't want to. The American Scouts tell you that if you don't believe in the Judeo-Christian God, you can't join. Not exactly the same thing.
PS. The American and Canadian
nations were also descended from Britain. Does that mean they're the same?

Mike, not to sheild the national council (they deserve whatever bashing they get) but quite a few of the councils and a goo deal of the troops (including the one in which I used to be a member) decided to ignore then rules regarding that. A lot of it's the leadership at the top, fundies mostly. But the organization is pretty decent at the lower levels.

Yep. I know of at least one troop filled with atheists and goths.
