Actually, they were armed with a 5"/38, Harpoon antiship missiles and fitted with sonar. The ASMs and sonar were removed and the 5"/38 replaced with the 3". They also have an HH-60; in times of war they might have an SH-60 for sub-hunting instead.

harpoons on a cutter? hmmm. Why'd they pull them off anyway?

How many drug smugglers do you think are operating boats that require Harpoon missiles to destroy? They were probably too expensive to justify keeping considering a cutter's usual role.

As for the COast Guard in combat, IIRC, the Coast Guard during wartime does a lot of ASW work, and during WWII a lot of the landing boat drivers were Coasties. They also do their usual search and rescue work in the combat zone, looking for pilots and sailors and whatnot.

Isn't this the wound that the Kerry campaign hasn't released all the documentation on?

It is not his fault anyway. His commandering officer, General(?) Zimmerman(I think) were handing out medals like hot cakes. Before his death at an military ball he essentially said John Kerry was awarded medals for killing noncombnants or this was a plus for getting medals. This does not implicate Kerry but rather Zimmerman who was supporting the killing of NCs. The news article is sort of iffy in my opinion, but I'll get it off other forum soon.

I love this. John Kerry may have possibly lied 30 years ago to get a Purple Heart, so he shouldn't be elected President, but George W. Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, so he should be reelected.

Neither one of them should be president.

The one year I was ready to vote Democrat for President, they had to nominate an asswipe such as Kerry.

Dean-I would have supported.
Edwards-Maybe. depends on GWB's fuckups.
Kerry-No way in Hell.

GWB-Needs to quit using the BoR as toilet paper.

Perhaps I should learn French or German and emigrate to Switzerland.

But you can't look me in the eye and tell me you've seen proof he'll be more of a fuck up than Bush.

And for each of you who go third or write-in or abstain from the vote, you're helping the incumbent.

I'll do damn near anything to get a rid of that monkey in Washington, and that includes voting for Kerry even though he's a scumbag.
