I'm pretty mellow when it comes to delaing with people, but I wouldn't say I'm especially quick to trust. I'll give the benefit of the doubt, but I'll also keep an eye out on new people.

Spanky's is naturally a paranoid mess when people have been in our house to work on the addition. The guy practically goes scurrying to the corner of the room with one hand on his wallet and the other on a shotgun the second something with a penis walks by. Possible exagerration, but it captures the spirit.

On the other end of things, my mother is strangely paranoid of the notion that I occasionally mentioned some of my game design concepts to my friends during conversations, as if they're going to steal them. For one thing, I'm hard-pressed enough as it is to find a gamer who even knows what a game designer is, and the suggestion that they'd jot the ideas down in a notebook to pre-emptively gain the upper hand in the industry is pure fantasy. Second, you can't even usually get a job interviewer to accept an example design doc, for the very existance of the "you're stealing my ideas!" mentality in the first place. Not to mention they've already got too many concepts and ideas coming out of their own developers to simply produce everything set on their desks.

I'm not too worried about it. Who cares if I shine pearls before swine and end up losing, anyway? Not like they can make a necklace out of it. :P

My mother is compleatly paranoid, I'm 18 years old, half a foot taller than her and I outweigh her by a good 30+lbs but when she is out and I have to watch my brother she insists that every door is locked six ways from sunday. Which is really weird to say the least considering we have lived in our housing developement (real yupy vill) practically since it opened and there has never been a single theft. But in her mind somehow the entire world turns against our house when she goes out.

my backdoor is open at pretty much all times. i don´t mean open as in unlocked but opan as in open.
thiefs could just check out when nobody´s home, walk in and steal stuff. for some reason they don´t.

My parents aren't paranoid about theft. We keep our backdoors open all day so that the dog and cats can go in and out, and we never lock the back doors. The front door stays unlocked almost all of the time, even sometimes when we're gone. We also keep stuff on the front porch or the side of the house from time to time.
And when we remodelled our kitchen, we left the door unlocked and let the workers let themselves in and out whenever they needed to, even when we weren't home.

And nobody ever steals anything.

My mom is pretty naive & trusting, someone could walk out the door with our TV and she probably wouldn't think too much of it. She leaves the door open when she's working in the backyard garden and someone could easily walk in & ransack the house without her even knowing it, and despite the fact that our home has been broken into before she refuses to take basic security precautions.

My dad is paranoid, he will watch over anyone working in our house not only to make sure they don't steal anything, but also to make sure they're actually working hard and not screwing around. He will hover over them as if he's their boss.
