They are saying the release will be this summer, and they will, they have to, they must!

Which probably means we can hope for either a June (early hopefully, mid most likely) or a July release.

Fuck me but the long download was worth it!
The zombie getting sliced in half by a gravity gun fired saw blade just rocked. Will you actually need to use any other weapon apart from the G-Gun ?

I assume that yes, that the gravity gun will not function on 'characters' or vehicles, such as the stalker.

Though I want to take a sharpened peice of titanium and ram it up the stalkers seemingly weak bottom side.

I remember reading something about the gravity gun a while back. It DOES have a weight limit, and it's easy to tell if you can pick up an object or not. If you can pick it up, the manipulators on the front of it will open up.

Of course, what you can't pick up, you can push with that beam of it. :D

That's an excellent question. I never managed to beat them in the beta, no matter how many times I tried.

I'm sure there must be some special method for defeating Striders. Everyone I know that's seen the vids or played the beta has said the best tactic upon seeing one is run away very fast!

Those heat-rays are bitching though, even without the rapid fire weapon and ability to chuck armoured vans at you and shrug off RPGs.

From what I know, the Zero Point gravity gun (or something like that) can function as a conventional weapon. Recall when he used its primary fire ONLY to knock the buggy back onto the road? You can do that to almost any object or creature; of course, from what I've been told, it's not very effective, less effective than a crowbar.

And from what I've heard the strider's uses a disintegration cannon, similar to the rifle the guy uses in the darkened house. I've been told that defeating striders isn't as simple as defeating those giant flame thrower monsters from Half-Life (100 energy and a few rockets actually kills 1), you have to like "bleed" it to death or something.

I've no idea what to call those rays they fire, other than "Bitch Rays" (because of what they make you).

The bitch rays appear to interfere with gravity, and atomize organic materal. However, none of the gravity or atomizing effects happen to non-organic material. (The weird way the pillars fall down is because they are colliding with each other.)

They could be classic Heat Rays. Burns stuff to a crisp, but that's about it.

Those would be the Garg (short for Gargantua).

Having one of those on my ass was always something that made me think 'oh shit' in the original Half-Life. Especially if I didn't have any explosives or experimental weapons handy. Or airstrikes :)

And from what I've seen, Striders are worse. Wonderful.

Doubtful, considering the visual effect when the striders use it. Notice at 10:56 or so, we see the strider through the pillars, at the center of the blue light "space" is pulled towards the blue in a circle. Or 11:06, it fires a blue beam at the target and sends a ball of distortion over the beam; it proceeds to travel towards Gordon, and at 11:08 you can see the body of a guy next to him twisted and contorted in an odd direction, vaporizing into nothing. I would say the body's odd position is the biggest giveaway, why would a head weapon spend people flying in such an odd position. They are even seen to be spinning slowly in midair while they evaporate. At around 11:09 you can see one of the bodies just disappearing into little sparks.
I think it's safe to assume it's not heat.
Note that all these times are taken from the Gamespy video.

If they were just heat rays, they wouldn't blow stuff apart in non-firey explosions, and they wouldn't suspend people hit by the blasts in midair surrounded by a glowing field.

Let me try to get some screenshots.

I would imagine, however, that it is the most effective method of knocking enemies off ledges. Or into fanblades. Or electrified water. Or acid. Or explosives....

I love Half-life. :D

As I've been told it doesn't really knock them around any; it's just a weak short range weapon otherwise. I could be wrong, but this is what I've been told by people who have tried the leacked version.

Doesn't look like a heat wave to me. :)

(It should be noted the area effect is larger than the distortion effect... as well as the fact that the pillars are exploding BEFORE the actual "distortion wave" has hit.

Hmm. Oh well. Can you pick up headcrabs with it?

Naw, and headcrabs only come off the body when you decapitate the... host. I guess we'll just have to wait for some modders to "change" that :)

As far as the heatwave versus whatever else it might be. It is obviously not a heat based weapon. See in image one the distortion "sphere" it's a circle above the barrel; if you follow the blue line from the pillar towards the strider that fired it, you'll notice the beam distorts when it arrives at the distortion field. I would say that it's some sort of gravity based weapon. Perhaps a "replacement" to the teleportation gun from opposing forces, considering that most of the other guns have been brought over, of course the hand held version isn't quite as potent, and as far as I've seen, doesn't have the beam.

My guess is a gravity based weapon, anyone else?

Don't forget the extremely disgusting "mutant" zombie whose entire torso is covered with headcrabs, which he can (and does) pull off and throw at you.

I think something has to be an "object" entity in order to use the gravity gun on it. For instance, he uses the grav gun to pick up and toss a live grenade. I would assume one might even be able to do that with a rocket (if you time it REALLY well).

Thing is, the rocket still has a propulsion system going, so if you chuck it, it's not going to to the way you want. (Unless it's pointing straight forward, of course.)

If it flies by your face, you can probably deviate its course slightly maybe.

Until you let go of it. Then the laser pointing at you makes it kill you. :P
