More like 60%, but that's still fairly damning for anybody looking to do anything with gay marriage on the federal level.

Now for Einhander.

Hey, fucktard, read the fucking post next time before you start crying about this or that injustice. I didn't post my opinion about gay marriage at all. I'm not trying to justify anybody's bigotry or hatred. In case you'r interested, I support gay marriage and believe that it's unconstititional not to permit it. Of course, you jumped on me like you always do, ready to go for the throat. Asshole.

CNN stated that Americans are 60% against, 32% for. All I could find on their website is This article that states only 1/3 support gay marriage.

I think the the true figure is in the same ballpark as Kast's guess. Linky.
CBSNews wrote:In a CBS News poll conducted immediately after President Bush endorsed a constitutional ban on gay marriage, 59% of Americans said they would favor an amendment to the Constitution that would "allow marriage only between a man and a woman," up slightly from 55% last December.

In a separate question that asked if they would support a constitutional amendment that would "allow marriage only between a man and a women and outlaw marriages between people of the same sex," support declines, but 51% would still support such an amendment.

Axis Kast wrote:"Political core," my ass. Eighty percent of the American people don't want homosexual marriage. In fact, Kerry's having a hell of a time broaching the subject in an easy fashion, either. Face it: this board is a majority liberal cross-section; most Americans fall into the conservative camp when it comes to homosexuality. Bush is pandering to a demographic that is perhaps the largest one with which he will ever engage.
do you have an actual reliable source for that "eighty percent of the american people" number you're spouting?
<Pulling Numbers Out Of Ass>I think there's a 99.99995% chance he has no source whatsoever and what he's doing in that post is exactly what I'm doing in this one! ;)</Pulling Numbers Out Of Ass>

At least I'm not doing it to justify bigotry and hatred.

And how many of that 60% support a Constitutional Amendment banning it and how many fall in the category of don't really like it, but don't really care what other people do?

I imagine though that most Americans don't see homosexuality as a minority. Sad.
I saw an ass-clown "black leader" on TV ranting against gays, saying that he is angry at them for calling gay rights a civil rights issue. To quote him from CNN:
asshole wrote:I can't change the colour of my skin, but you can change your lifestyle!
Naturally, he got rousing applause. Fucking idiots; I can't believe grown human beings can contemplate this issue for any length of time and come to the conclusion that sexual attraction is a conscious choice.
It was here in Georgia, on the legislature's first attempt (the one that was barely defeated) to make a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. At the same time there were other old civil rights leaders who were saying that yes, gay rights IS a civil rights issue and condemned the others for condemning it. The way you can tell who is who: the secular ones are for gay marriage; the old preachers are against it. Surprised, anyone?

I heard a 'family values' speaker explain why gays aren't a minority.

She claimed that "according to sociologists," a minority must have an immutable characteristic, and be disadvantaged economically and politically.

And, since we all know that homosexuality is a choice, gays are rich and the homosexual agenda is a powerful shadow force in washington, gays are not a minority.

My jaw dropped.

Sociologists are full of enough shit as it is. In the political arena, minorities are defined exclusively by numbers, not being economically or politically disadvantaged. Are Asians not a minority because they make basically the same mean salary as whites?
