Um... how'd you reach that figure? The turbolaser commentaries simply mention a minimum in the kiloton-range... nothing about a maximum.
Astriod Vaproization SPOOFE, The shot appears to be fired from one of the Light Guns and it stated as requiring 40.7 Gigatons of firepower to Vaporise the Astroid Completly as it was done
?

The only asteroid figures I'm aware of come from TESB,
and none of those rocks was big enough to necessarily
warrant even a megaton of energy (4,180 terajoules).
Those guns probably *do* have a firepower well in
excess of a megaton/sec. (as evident by Acclamator's
6 MT/shot weapons), but I've never seen anything to
suggest a five order of magnitude increase!

Notice I later correct myself and remove all cases of that Sean I was working under false pretenses for LTLs therfore I said "Woops" and edited any LTL figures out as they where bullshit

Its logical to assume that TLs, being energy weapons, might not yield the same cloud of dust, etc. that are so important to the K-T boundary event, yield or no yeild.
However you forget the Dirctional nature of TLs if one fired a 1 Teraton TL at the Earth it will do little damage outside of the 10-15 Meter Area it course through as it would vaporise/melt anything in its way until it ran out of energy

IE like if we had a 1 Teraton Laser it would drill through the Earth but not much else
Flackburst mode?

Flackburst mode?
Thats not exactly a Long Range Setting

Umm... welcome to the world of "secondary thermal effects," Bean ol' boy. Ever vaporize a cubic meter of rock? It's gonna expand... quickly. You vaporize several hundred cubic meters of rock, and the sudden violent expansion of superheated matter is gonna simulate an explosion well enough.

Furthermore, a 1 teraton TL bolt plunging through an atmosphere will superheat the air it passes, resulting in a stream of excited plasma trailing behind the bolt as it plummets to the surface.

"Vaporization" isn't like Star Trek, where the vaporized material suddenly vanishes in a puff of CG. The matter and heat of the target needs to go somewhere... and that somewhere is the area surrounding the target.

It doesn't make a huge amount of difference Bean, it all comes down to energy transfer rates in the affected medium and a TL blast is gonna be pretty damn similair to an asteroid hit (in so far as cratering and blast wave) given that both are pretty directional and both must bleed energy into the atmosphere and ground.

Bean, this is ray shielding only, right? I don't see where you factored in for the particle shields.
