Hmmm. Reason why the pilgrims got the hell out of Britain was to escape theocracy-like pressure. Now people here are trying to recreate a theocracy.

History repeats, truly.

Guardsman Bass wrote:I already know how my senators voted  but anyway, this is good news, I guess, although I don't think it was expected to pass anyway. Still, that was too damn close!

My guess, it will probably re-emerge if Bush is re-elected.
Too close? Sure, it was close in the senate, but an amendment also has to pass the house of representatives and 2/3 of the states, so I'm not worried about it.

If it resurfaces, hopefully more gay people will have married in Massechusetts, and the "Family Values Meddlesome Assholes Brigade" will have to chose between minding their own fucking business or forcefully divorcing all those people. It's nice to see progress being made, however galling some may find it.

No, they wanted to escape the wrong theorcracy. Once they came here, they immediately tried to set up their own.

Huh, I didn't expect Specter to vote Yea, though I knew from the get-go that Santorum would.

I was in my local comic shop, making my weekly rounds when I heard the news. Yea to Boxer; Ca.'s still a good place to live! And I agree with the four words of:

IN YOUR FACE BUSH!

This continues to give me hope that that man, his policies and machinations, his cronies and hypocrisy, all of it will go bye-bye come November 11.

Domenici (R-NM) - Yea
Bingaman (D-NM) - Nay

Not surprised. Domenici, while a good senator, needs some common sense. That's always been his problem.

Eat it, motherfuckers.

BTW - I think McCain's one of maybe two Republicans (the other being Powell) that I could see myself voting for. Maybe. Unless they were up against Clinton. Clinton's the man.

And a question...where did you guys find the votes for your senators? Senate.gov?

Notice that its almost a perfectly even split, with very few people voting againt their party. Yay for the bipartisan system, supporting groupthink in the 21st century!

Good on Baucus. He is up for relection and I will vote for him. Burns is already on my shit list (he promised to be a two term senator when he was first elected, he is currently serving his 3rd term).

In his weekly radio address at the weekend, he [Bush] called marriage between a man and a woman "the most fundamental institution of civilisation".
From the Beeb's article.

Nono, you're wrong! If it weren't for marriage between a man and a woman, cities would never have existed!

Well, one guy linked it to the future of the country, and somehow to homeland security.

"I would argue that the future of our country hangs in the balance because the future of marriage hangs in the balance. Isn't that the ultimate homeland security, standing up and defending marriage?" -Sen. Rick Santorum

[Sarcastic] I was very impressed when Santorum and his associates assumed they were right to defend marriage because it existed for over 5,000 years in the same form [/Sarcastic]

Good ol' Robert Byrd! Clansman, Spendthrift and now he can add Fag-Hater to his resume. Maybe Tevar could do us a favor and 'accidently' issue his death certificate at the clerk's office. That should keep him from voting for a while.

Norm Coleman shouldn't have voted for this amendment. I mean, look how frequently he's got Bush's dick up his ass.

Um yeah..this was the vote to overcome the filibuster, which didnt pass. We still dont know where everyone would have stood on the amendment itself. This was just a fancy dance way of not having to be forced to vote yes/no on the actual amendment during an election year...hard to convince conservative america that you are pro family while also voting yes to gay marriage...

a nice dance indeed
