Norton Anti Virus Question
Moderator: Edi
the only viruses I'm really concerned about are the ones that do serious damage, like Win32.cih, which reflashes your flash bios, making the computer useless. This I almost got from a disk a friend of my sister's gave me.

Anything worth the cost of a missile, which can be located on the battlefield, will be shot at with missiles. If the US military is involved, then things, which are not worth the cost if a missile will also be shot at with missiles. -Sea Skimmer

Seconded. It's what I use here and it works just fine.Darth Wong wrote:Grisoft AVG Antivirus is free. Forget Norton and McAfee.
Norton's pay-for-updates scheme is nothing but a ripoff. Just say no to rental software.
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

I would also recomend mine, the H+BEDV Antivir Antivirus. Free and I'm quite content with it. It has even stopped infections.Darth Wong wrote:Grisoft AVG Antivirus is free. Forget Norton and McAfee.

All I can say is that I've been using Norton 2002 (previous ones didn't work with XP), then I updated to Norton 2003. I want to note that it wasn't worth the downl... 50 bucks, because it's 99% identical to 2002, except for a few different drawings in the menu.
Norton AV has NO serials. If you uninstall it (maybe clean a bit of the registry) and reinstall it, you get ANOTHER YEAR of free LiveUpdate. Is it illegal? Why? What law says I can't delete stuff from my registry?
In fact it should be illegal to allow updating only if you pay extra.

You agreed to the license which IIRC stayed you would receive one (1) free year of use from LiveUpdate. As such it is technically illegal to circumvent that, but I seriously doubt Symantec gives a damn (else they'd try harder).
I much prefered NAV Corporate Edition (my previous university used it) over the retail editions (much cleaner GUI).
I'm currently using GriSoft AVG though.

I got the idea from your post. Granted, you did not directly say you were using the school's computer, but you mentioned the school's system, and in the very next scentance, said you turn off the virus software, because it's too slow. If you do not see how this is a clear implication, but not a direct statement, your command of the english language is a poor one. Making a logical inferance from a clear implication, is not the same as jumping to a conclusion, based on nothing.
Sorry about the harsh words, as they are clearly undeserved.
In a blaltent attempt to weasel into a better moral position, I must say that you did admit to being lazy, and said what the fuck.
My mother teaches at a middle school, and every semester, someone does what a unjustly accused you of doing, with the predictable results.
