So if the AI in the single player sucks, is there at least a mock multi player mode using bots with more intelligent AI?

You can have bots in Multiplayer. Up to 30 per side, IIRC. they're just as stupid as in singleplayer. And conquest is the only mode which is offered (ie, no Co-op, no CTF, etc.)

It's very frustrating.
Weird, I've had them do that before. Of course other times they don't go near them and spend all their time shooting it out with the imps elsewhere.

Oh and Vader just kicked my ass.
I just killed Darth Vader...on accident

I can't even kill him on purpose!

Here I was, about to snipe a Stormtrooper. Vader was running around slaughtering rebels near me. Just as I pulled the trigger, Vader jumped in front of me to attack with his saber, and his head went right in front of my sniper shot. It hit him in the head, he gave a little Vaderish "aaagh!", dropped his saber and fell down in a black heap next to me, and after a few seconds his body vanished.

I didn't know it was even possible to kill hero's with normal weapons fire!

I killed Vader AGAIN in the crossfire, and this time got a screenshot of the body.

Then I killed him AGAIN by knocking him off the edge of the Bespin facility with a grenade (the screenshot shows the top of his lightsaber showing off the edge of bespin).

I tested the game, wasn't too impressed. Horrible graphics, gameplay and maps. If anything, it felt like a third party mod for a two or three year old game. It should've been much "more realistic" and less arcade-like. All weapons in "Battlefront" act like BB guns, including the main guns of an AT-AT.

*goes to try that Star Wars mod for Battlefield 1942*
Does anyone play it online?

I play Galactic conquest (BF1942 mod) all the time. Best maps are Tanaab, Judicator, Hoth (Of course), Deathstar 1, and Task Force. Get it, live it. play it. Love it.

Just had a really awesome firefight in Mos Eisley (where the rooftops are the sniper's friend and the closed in areas are a Droideka's dream). Some really intense moments there, and some great things.. like breaking up enemy strong points via orbital bombardment :D

Okay, boys, when I get home today, I'll host a game called Stardestroyer.net...I can only support like 3 ppl on my connection, though, so I'll pepper it with bots, unless someons has a better connection they can host on. Just post here, and I'll join. For SDNetters only, ya know. I'll even let you guys pick the maps I put in the rotation. Dont wait! Post now what maps ya want, or if ya want to host. I'll keep it up and running until jeanne takes my internet connection away.

Server of what, Battlefront or Galactic Conquest?

Me now, I like Battlefront for what it does well - ground vehicle combat. No matter what anyone says, I found it exhilerating to obliterate things in the ATAT, and the Republic vehicles are tough and strong. Shooting Gungans, Ewoks, and Jawas never gets boring.

My only complaint is that the weapons are underpowered for what I expected - I really would have preferred one-hit-kill weaponry. Yes, respawning doesn't bug me - I like my in-game weapons to feel sturdy and lethal, even when they're pointed at me. I'm not happy knowing that I can absorb blaster fire while sprinting across the hall. I don't like seeing unarmored Rebel Vanguards that can take three blaster shots to the face, or Wookies who sprint around absorbing rockets to the groin.

That and the absolute and utter abolition of the 'shotgun blaster'. Just give those Dark Troopers a portable E-webb, and I'd be happy.

And one last thing: When playing Galactic COnquest OR Battlefront, I've noticed that no matter what, half the people I end up playing with online are at LEAST as incompetent as the bots, to the point where I sometimes don't have a clue which are which. I've seen human players in both games fly three feet into a wall, leap in a corner, sit pointlessly hundreds of miles from the front, shoot teammates in the back, lob grenades into their own bases, and run off of cliffs. The only thing I notice that human players actually do far better than bots is snipe and swear.

I can probably host 5-6 people with only minor lag issues (haven't installed yet, so I have yet to find out how it runs, but I wouldnt imagine it to be a big network hog.)

Whatever happened to your "we can't be the agressors" thing from NJO, Luke? :P

Well, played for about an hour on Battlefront. Kinda fun, but not fantastic. 'Nade tossing is about useless, some of the vehicles were funky driving, and I hated the 'fog'.

I don't know why everyone here is saying the AI sucks. I thought it was very good in SP. They all take cover, they all advance on the points, and when you give them commands, they actually listen to you unlike in BF 1942. And they have limited range of vision, so if you're sniping them from afar they won't really spot you. I admit I'm not a fan of the slow-moving bolts, shotgun weapons, or the dumbed-down aircraft, but that could all probably be modded out. I'd like to see someone put together a mod that puts in all of the big heavy blasters from the movies and make all of the existing weapons more realistic to the movies. But even by itself, I like the game. And in regards to the "motion-blur" effect, it can be turned off.

One thing that pisses me off though is that in the AT-AT you don't have a dedicated gunner and pilot. Instead, you have a pilot that controls the head, body, and two chin guns, and a second gunner that controls the two side guns. Just like I predicted would happen in the Galactic Conquest mod if the AT-AT ever made it in, the second gunner has virtually no control over the side-mounted guns because they depend solely on the motions of the head. If the gunner has full control over the motions of the head and over all four guns, it would be a much more effective vehicle. Also it was disappointing to find that there was no maximum firepower mode for the chin guns. And I couldn't figure out how to load it up with troops to transport them across the battlefield. :?:

And what happened to the Imperial officer???

I dunno if you can load troops in it or not, BUT the AT-AT counts as a mobile command post that can't be captured. Troops that die can spawn at the foot of the AT-AT, no matter where the AT-AT is.
And what happened to the Imperial officer???
They decided to remove him and the bothan spy (I know, it sucks :( ) a long time ago.

I've been playing this game since launch and so far have had a mostly positive experience from it. The sound and graphics of this game are really top notch. They did a good job of making it feel 'Star Warsy' in my opinion. Some of the maps just make for good out and out brawls (Mos eisley or is it bespin? I forget) But some of the maps are completely lop sided. (Any board where one team gets no vehicles and the other team does)
Anyone who played BF1942 at launch should remember all the problems that game had. The netcode was pretty bad at first. The medic was the best commando unit in the game. There were some balancing issues all around. These things just take time. A few patches later SWBF could easily turn out to be a classic.
Some of the things they need to fix are:
The server selection screen is just pitiful. The servers populating makes it near impossible to click on the game you intended to. And like someone mentioned before you get a 'server full' message on half the games that say they aren't full.
It would be nice if when someone killed you it told you what they killed you with. For now you can't tell if someone is sniping you or maybe you took an ATAT blast to the back.
Some people complain about the flying. I use 3rd person mode and tend to dominate the skies. And I've seen people doing barrel roles and advanced manuevers so I don't think it's nearly as limited as some people think it is. It just takes some practice to figure out the finer points.
Maps that let players pick what side they want to be on tend to get lopsided. Everyone wants to play on the clone trooper side and no one wants to be a droid so it'll be like 2 guys with 10 bots on the droid side and 12 guys on the clones. That's just no fun. Stick with servers that have auto assign turned on. You don't always get to play who you want but it makes for funner matches.
I feel the wookiee class is very underpowered. The only thing that it has that is every really effective is the time bomb for blowing up the shield generator on the Endor level. And their grenaded launcher is somewhat effective against troops. But usually as a wookiee you get owned by the assault class. If perhaps they could climb up surfaces or something. Cuz then they could be used to get to spawn points quicker kind of like the Empires Dark troopers with their jump packs.

Well, those are all the gripes I can think of but all those aside the game is really fun if you like the BF style games and are a starwars fan. If you don't like starwars you might prefer just to stick with BF cuz it's been out longer and is way more polished.

I for one play Clonetroopers and Separitists equally. I just love rolling around as a droideka. I never play Rebel scum when I have a choice however, but I'm an Empire nut. "Blast 'em!" I've been killed by Wookiees plenty of times though, the bowcaster seems pretty nasty and they're tough as hell. I only see two major balance issues: The Rebels' SuperSpeeders™ and Clonetrooper jetpack troops. The Rebel speeder is insanely powerful even with only a pilot and no gunner (dual blaster cannons and twin missile launchers with 2-round magazines each, and the gunner's main gun), it rips apart AT-STs. The jetpack Clonetrooper not only has a jetpack allowing him to speed around the map, but also easily the most powerful weapon. It only has a 2-round magazine, but reloads quickly. Droideka shields are nigh-useless against it and a direct hit will destroy any droid, not to mention its splash damage.

Well, now that I've played the game alot, Im starting to like it. :) It does need patches, but still a solid game and fun game. Oh, and for MP hosting, I can arrange a game tommorow night, since I successfully hosted about 10 random players without much trouble. Map suggestions, anyone?

You don't load troops into it, it does however act as a spawn point so that's just as good. Comes in very handy when you're trying to take a troublesome point. If you've got a pilot and co-pilot working together you can solve that problem though by prioritizing targets.

And lets be honest.. how much more effective does the AT-AT really need to be? Without massed anti-armor fire or snowspeeders an AT-AT with a pilot (or even worse, 2) is almost invulnerable.

Yes, however anything heavier than an AT-ST tends to rip it up. Even in an AFT-X I can usually kill at least 2 of them before they bring me down. More if I get a break to repair between groups. Also the Empire is still much better off in the vehicle department with AFT-Xs, and AT-ATs both being vehicles capable of crushing speeders that there is no real rebel counter for (except snow speeders on Hoth but that doesn't help the rebels on Rhen Var and the speeders can be countered easily).
The jetpack Clonetrooper not only has a jetpack allowing him to speed around the map, but also easily the most powerful weapon. It only has a 2-round magazine, but reloads quickly. And that EMP gun is about the only weapon where you can hope to kill a droideka before it kills you. It's hardly unbalancing to give the clones some counter to the Droideka with which it's usually rather easy to kill several times your number in clone troopers before the shield fails and they bring you down (and which is a stone bitch for that isolated guy trying to snag command points).

Ive spent the last two days palyin the x-box version and i think its brilliant. although the controls for the vheicals are a little random for my liking :wtf:
also why the lack of backround music. i wanna here the imp march whilr im kicking the rebels arse not just snippits when im about to win god dam it!
apart from that id give 8.5 out of 10...

MWAHAHA I like it  I mean sure yuou can die easy specially iof you take a command center early in the game.....I dislike the shotgun weapons..the Pilots should only have a blaster pistol IMO anbd the areial troopers....maybe E-webs.....I wouldlike to see more battlegrounds myself . Hoth is wicked on both sides specially if you steal a walker at first you can take out some of the rebel bunkers early that way.

How to beat an AT-AT safely:

forget massed anti armor fire. (This applies to the level that HAS an AT-AT, but no snowspeeders...rhen Var?) anyhoo, have your team go snipzor (sniper) or just several of your team, not all. Camp a weapon crate, and safely send out recon droids. Line up just IN FRONT of the moving AT-AT, and set off the bombardment. If your bombardment misses, you take out some freshly spawned troops at their feet; when it hits....BOOM. It's cheeseball, but it works.

Also:

Kashyyyk sucks. Fuck that lopsided piece of shit map. The best one is bespin platforms, but even that map is way too small for effective aerial battles. I can't wait until the map builder comes out to see some custom shizzle.

And to those of you who say, "It's new, they can patch it." Fuck that. That is a limpdick cop-out. that game should be ready to go when it's supposed to be ready to go. I have mucho respect for Bungee pushing back the release date of Halo 2 so they get it right the first time. It's ridiculous that consumers must pay for a fully functional and balanced game and then wait for two or three months before they actually get it.

This game is fun for a generic BF1942 style game, but it would be awesome if somebody did a mod for it fixing alot of the non-star wars things like the slow blaster bolts, pitiful strength projectiles, shotguns weapons and making some nice big maps that vehicles actually have some space to move in (imagine a Hoth map based on the map of the battle in the OT ITW for example).

Supporting 64 players, no less. The rebels would have time to set up minefields, see the walkers coming from miles out, and attempt to slow them with waves of snowspeeders. Also, I would like to see aking a snowspeeder somehow costing the rebels some tickets, since, in the movie, at least, it was painfully obvious they were woefully short on CAS for the ground forces.

I'd also like to see the turrets' range increased- ALOT. Right now, they're fucking pathetic. the placement of the trenches should be different, and since when was the goddamned shield generator behind a hill?

Another damned bitch about hoth: there wa no rebel fleet above the planet, and if there were they'd have been vaporized quickly. how in the FUCK can a scout call down a bombardment? Eliminate that rebel ability. (Yeah, I know it's fecking useless, since no one will get close enough with a droid to call down an accuratye strike on the walker, but still.

ANOTHER BITCH:

No. Deathstar. Battle.

What the bloody fuck?! some clever mapmaker had better come up with some good shit for that one. I hope the coding exists in game for a modder to increase the mass of the ship models to such an extent as to cause capships to *not* handle like fighters.(In the GC mod for BF:1942, I assumed this was not hard, simply use the carrier/battleship characteristics, and re-skin them) Anyway, is it so hard to map out a DSI trench run? I don't think so. This is one of my biggest gripes. You get to play the battle ON Yavin, the fall of Yavin, but no deathstar I or II spacefight. (GO BUY X-WING GAME, THEN, FUCKFACE) you may say. YEah, I can do that, but I was so hoping I would get a BF:1942-style multiplayer ass-kickfest with this game. The maps are just too damned smallish.

*sigh*

Wait for the patch...wait for the patch.....wait for the build tools....wait, wait, wait.

Until this is fixed, I'll be playing Fable, which is infinitely more entertaining and fun.
