The Storm Commandos were supposed to be extreme badass.

I've seen some pretty nice commando operations from the Rebel side of things in some of the books. The assassination of General Dlarit, for example.

Conducted by former Imperial Navy soldiers.

There have been some examples, but for the most part the special forces described in the books aren't so special.

Just a handy analogy:

Naboo is Switzerland. Earth is a little stone-age Polynesian island.

Thousands of American and Japanese soldiers died for seemingly worthless islands in the Pacific. Like I said, if we're on the fringe, they'd love to have a presence out here. Location Location Location! :)

I'll have to agree with some of you, Earth will be a source of cheap labor. Weather we end up as slaves or big corporations move in and set up shop. I also think most or all of our military might will taken for us for there is more to see then this little rock in space. But a couple thing that will happen. There will be very little military presence here. The only people that we fight is ourselves, but there will be a lot of recruiters and maybe a training post. And a seat in the Senate, ya right, maybe if we were really good maybe in 500 YEARS we could get a small voice. If thats will ever happed.

Good idea. "Build a military outpost and take a bunch of our workers, in exchange for one one light freighter with hyperdrive so we can start shamelessly copying the technology". Might work, IF they can manage to copy it ;)

We could lend the moon and other planets out for strip-mining or, in the moon's case, as a potential military outpost or base. Alternatively, we may get some funding from the Galactic museum, as they would be most curious about a planet with primitive humans with a fossil record describing human evolution on that planet.

I don't see how we could lend things we don't own. If we lived in the SW galaxy, then they probably land/explore the other planets before we do.

But we HAVE landed on the moon, and it would be easy to issue a claim for it. Of course, SW corporate interests might just IGNORE the claim, but maybe they won't- this is the Galactic Republic in its early days, before it effectively rotted away.

I figure they'd set up a military outpost and some factories to take advantage of our cheap labor, then begin the slow process of bringing us up to a semi-respectable tech level, if only to make us a bit more useful to them.

I wonder what the Empire would make of that moon of Saturn that looks like the DS?

Attach a hyperdrive engine to it and fly it to disobedient systems. The systems promptly shit themselves and surrender to the might of the "Death Star." :D
