I suppose Child Abuse is no business of the government either?

I think Ontario needs state employees in every home, monitoring what people and their children are doing. We can have folks locked up for feeding their kids too much fast food and letting them see boobies on TV. It'll be lovely.
Do you have anything intelligent to say, or is this cretinous slippery-slope fallacy the only thing you plan to contribute to this discussion?

Just like wearing seatbelts in Australia is the law, and its enforced(you can even lose your driving licence over it if you really screw up). some info

Oh, that is. Protecting the life of a child. However, a great many things are potentially harmful chemically, and we dont ban them. WIth the windows of a car open, the amount of smoke is relativly low, but I really cant pass judgement until I see the study itself.

And how often do you get pulled over specifically for seatbelts? How will a cop notice and have probable cause with which to pull you over?

Problem is, there is no plausible way to enforce that law. I wouldnt mind it if iit could be enforced, but Jesus, I cant spot a cigarette hanging from someoens hand at 10 feet of distance from a moving vehicle, how can a police officer do so reliably?

I suppose sensors could be installed on all new cars, that jack up the price. But while this law has good intentions, it is useless if breaking it cannot be punished.

*ahem* we do win local offices, thank you very much.

ANd I am not AS bad anymore with the lack of government programs.

However, banning smoking in cars is no business of a government. It is unenforcable as well, and will end up being a waste of money.
Same way you catch people who don't wear belts~ If I cop happens to catch you in the act, ticket ticket ticket!
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

But that is just it... how will they catch you?

WHen they get you for speeding, you toss the cigarette out the window and put your seatbelt on before pulling over. By the time they actually get to yyour car, any smoke in the car is clear, and they cant prove anything? WHat are they doing to do, use a gas chromatograph or basic titration to measure the amount of CO on the air and correlate it to a time when the car was last smoked in?
