Self-control is still something I'm working on. I'd probably have spun and lashed the kid for it.

Sir Ian McKellan kicks ass. the ability to handle the idiots and homophobes with class like that and without being angered is highly impressive...he has earned yet more points where i am concerned.
btw, to those interested, i can tell you from my own experience that one has no choice over whether they like girls or boys, being bi i deal with the swings into both realms. and trust me if i could somehow choose to be straight and make it stick i'd do it in a second, even if it meant giving up anything i had.

SILENCE
Stony fucking silence. The balcony where I sat you could hear the collective gasp from many of the folks. I never knew or even guessed that he was gay until that point and you know what? I didn't give a shit. Obviously alot of people were confused and then of course there was a ghetto fabulous group behind us that just started laughing innanely and one of the kids says "Gandalf is a faggot!"
Mr. McKlellan handled it all with a wink and a smile...pure unadulterated class. I've been a fan of his work since.
Wow. Cool. Coolness +n where n = a lot.

I knew he was gay, but only after seeing the movie once or twice. Sometimes I cant help but wonder "you think he digs Frodo?" But other than that I really dont see how anyone would care beyond wether or not he makes for a convincing Gandalf.

In one of his correspondence letters concerning X-Men and of course it's sequels (X-Men 2, duh!) one heavily ladden E-Post dripping with innuendo about the supposed relationship between Magneto and Prof. Xavier, Sir McKellen replied something to the likes of this;
Don't be anticipating any 'meaty' engagements between Magneto and Prof. Xavier any time soon.
I nearly fell off my chair!

Fuck, I am remebering someone flaming me over Partick Stewart!?!
the idiot responded with 'You lying flamer, I saw him with Beverly Crusher, you can't fake that!'
I shook my head, thought of Rock Hudson & Doris Day.
ok if any of the idiots are out there....
Hell, I have sent E-mails to Powell and Schartzkoff calling them liars because of their comments about history showing that gays have no place in Western Military Tradition, First off they invented it! (Ref: Anchient Greece), secondarily they have served with distinction through many wars, most openly in US service would be Walt Wittman), and one of the greatest gurillia tactics in the desert (Something Powell & Shwartzkoff say is impossible) innovators was Gay! (Theodore Edward Lawrence)
Fuck

Ummm, your reference to Ancient Greeks is a little confusing. You're not saying that the Ancient Greeks were homosexual are you?

No, They were mostly Bisexual, particularly those that started the Western Military Ttadition, this kept through with the Roman Military, etc.

I didn't know he was gay until a saw an article on him where he supported a gay party in San Fransisco. I posted the link to SB where some already did know and some didn't. It was unnexpected for me but it was a cool thing anyway.
I myself have been taught that gay is neither a bad or good thing by my parents, even if you were gay, so what?
Remember a bad time 8 years ago in a new school where I suddenly became a target for trouble makers. I didn't knew why they did it. But when I started to think back at those painful memories everything became so suddenly clear. They thought I was gay. And at that time i barely had any knowledge what gay meant anyway.
Now after have seen Sir Ian McKellan in "Fellowship of the Ring" I think he is one of the best actors in the world. He has this special acting skills very few actors do have. A dying breed i think.
And i don't give a damn if he is gay or not. And let those people post their homophobic post and Ian will throw them into the trash can one by one.

Actually, no. TE Lawrence got really fucked up by the Turks, where he
got brutally sodomized amongst other things when he was in their
prisons...

Darth Wong wrote:On the subject of homophobia in general, it is a source of constant amazement to me that so many Christians think the private bedroom activities of total strangers are somehow their business.
Too many of them (I can't even call them "us", as it's the nigh-ultimate degradation to be considered part of the same group) suffer from the Pharisee/Sadducee syndrome. Assuming I even respond to their claptrap, I normally tell them to look up the scripture where it says to "remove the beam from your own eye before trying to remove the mote from your brother's eye".
In other words... until they've achieved perfection (which would mean they'd be pulled straight up to heaven anyway), they should STFU and let people live their lives as they choose.
