*MONDO SPOILERS. If you read the post below it'll spoil the whole ending for you.*

Depends. According to the voice logs, and to people who've played through as a Malkavian, the cabbie is actually Caine. While that's kind of cool I personally think your explanation would make more sense in the wider vampire universe.

As for Lacroix, he was a dumb asshole and got what was coming to him. I mean seriously, he knew the casket had already been opened on the Dane and still didn't stop and think just exactly what that meant.

Myself, I sided with Strauss and got the Camarilla ending. Basically a 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' rip-off, but a satisfying one.

What endings are there, exactly?

Ending list, very minor spoilers:

Anarch, Kuei Jin, Camarilla, LaCroix and Independant.
Anarch and Independant endings can be either good or bad; The Cammie ending is good, Kuei Jin and LaCroix are bad.

Spoiler:

The Kuei Jin Ending: The Queen bitch says that they will kill all Kindred but let you live because you helped them.
Than they tie you to the sacrophagus and throw it into the ocean.

Mr Bean wrote:Give you a hint right now, the people at Vampire fucked this one up, first according to a friend in the modding community they don't want people modding the game(Saw the Cease and Desist Order myself, unless he spent his time or someone else did jimming up a quality fake and spoofing their IP its a real CaD)

Nevermind the Engine rights belong to Valve and Co and Valve and Co have already said, mod the fuck out of anything you want.

Second the bugfixes.... the game stoped devolpment several months before HL2's release.... and there was not a change since then(Confirmable yourself by looking at your core files and checking the change history if you have the know how)

And third something I just learned... Parts of the Source Engine(Specificly relating to the physics) are outright DISABLED ingame, no reason, just cut from the game to remove some of the goodness of HL2's physics are cut(Hardest to notice due to a completle lack of throwable objects but try and use the Gravity gun to skip some trashcans across the water, you can, try it in Vampire? They hit the water and sink reguardless of how much force you apply or at what angle)
I don't understand why they fucked it up, I still enjoy it despite the bugs but it would be much much better with quite a few bugfixes and if it used the physics engine more.

Yes see they were in the bug testing phase a year before release then at the six month before release mark... they stoped, cut a gold disc and said... The end... despite the fact that they had another six months to ship it they stoped all playtesting then and there

Each to his own...
I tried several online games, and I got no enjoyment for any longer period of time out of them...

The vast majority of gamers still play single player games exclusively, so that's why most games are still single player.

Sorry to resurrect the thread, but I thought I'd comment on the game since I just bought it.

I agree that the intro sequence is really sloppy and I can't believe they let such a poorly put together sequence through testing (when the screen went blank I thought my computer was fucking up) but then, judging from the bugs this game went out the door with (that only recently got fixed by the patch- i.e. the game crash bug that prevents you from advancing) this doesn't surprise me.

Speaking of poor sequences, there's another one where LaCroix's enforcer kills those Sabbat goons- his Spectral Wolves seem to be attacking thin air. Just looks sloppy. I can't believe they didn't notice this.

THAT SAID, I find this game extremely enjoyable. Despite it using the Source Engine, I had no expectations as to a Half Life 2 type experience re physics engine and such, because it's not that kind of game, it's an RPG, and frankly, if you're wasting time shooting televisions and such to see what happens ... :)

I don't know why they switched off some of the Source engines features as mentioned above, perhaps it has something to with greater performance requirements, though it baffles me that the performance is significantly worse than Half Life 2- on my new video card the frame rate isn't very good outdoors, though it's flawless indoors. The new patch doesn't seem to fix the alleged memory leak problem, though I wouldn't no as I'm not experienced it (got the info on this memory leak from a few reviews).

Back to the games good points- I like that guns are a complete waste of time; I wouldn't feel like a vampire unless I was either going unarmed or melee anyway- my Brujah character kicks arse. Yes, when using firearms you're inaccurate as shit, but it just doesn't bother me, I havent' bothered with firearms skill at all. I love the conversations, the voice acting, the atmosphere, the music, the tons of quests, the character skill system, I love the way melee combat looks (there's something about sending puny Kine flying that does it for me every time). The real meat of this game can't be faulted, IMO. Hoping for a sequel that also uses the Source Engine, this time with some more bells and whistles and a little better presentation intro sequence wise.

I also want to play through the game as each of the Clans- especially the Malkavians, who apparently experience the television talking to them directly :)
