I read in the opinions section of my newspaper about a paradigm (a viewpoint or perspective, I believe) that has seeped into American culture. After 9/11 and the recent sniper attacks, people have come to attain the perspective that the outside world is a world of evil. A new paradigm in American culture.

And now the media is helping to fuel that paradigm. If a story's got the word terrorist in it, it becomes headline news (exaggeration, but close).

Paranoia. Can you imagine how dangerous to the whole world a paranoid America can be???

Why does mainstream America have to be filled with such uppity people

The stupid thing is, the snipers were Americans, it wasn't an outside attack at all. And the terrorists involved in the Sept. 11 attacks had been in the US for at least several months.

Just look at the European Union... just whizz on by at the borders, any cop that stops you, you show your ID, and that's it (if you're a law abiding citizen, that is).

I'm sure the US and Canada could reach to an agreement in these lines...
(Of course, Quebec-(whatever)-ans would all jump up and down yelling invasion!)
Well, that's a tad extreme. True, it is still too easy for a potential terrorist to enter the country via Canada, but this shit's rediculous. But we still have to protect U.S. borders, esp. after 9/11, and esp. on the Mexican-American border. My family came over legally. We don't have any sort of tolerence for this illegal shit.
I totally agree, but they could relax certain laws concerning "legal" citizens. But I prefer not to dwell in this point, I don't know the laws of both countries concerning these situations.
I'll just like to say that, up to a point, the free passage of persons works all right without these degradating episodes.

In the process on alienating all americans that frequent this BBS, I'd say you are getting VERY paranoid, with a strong Fortress mentality, and that can lead to a dangerous situation...

As for not gardening my lawn after 2pm, Id ask him if he was a complete fucking idiot.
That would fucking suck. I wonder if he has to also pay utilities to two countries as well.
No, he'd just pay to the company that supplies him. You don't pay utilities to the government; you pay them to a private company. Course sometimes that company is government owned, but that’s generally not the case in North America.

Thing is that the company may not be allowed to cover other countries. So he has to get electricity for half of his house from the U.S. and the other half from Canada. :D And he has to pay both bills.
