No, because frankly some sig have gotten out of control. Especially for those unfortunate enough to have to use dial up.

I use dial-up and have no problem with sigs.

It just depends on how many programs you re running. The only problem I have, is downloading the porno threads, have too reclick them 2 or 3 times, but it's worth it.

Yeah, but I do agree that they need to be cut back in some cases. Talen's enourmous pic comes to mind.

I have broadband and I've had probs with sigs. Especially that long animation in the sig of whoever it was that had "Wing Commander: Imperial March" or something like that. That anim was about 150kb

Good thing the person got rid of it.

I recently added a great little snippet to my sig that was well-thought out and brilliant at the same time.

I'm on broadband so I can't say I have any complaints about the byte size of sig images but the pixel size and the length of some sigs is getting a bit much. Fgalkin's sig stood out as a particular offender until he cut out the white space and got rid of the bbcode [quote] elements.

It's difficult to write universal sig standards because how large a given sig looks to a given user depends greatly on their particular configuration; screen resolution, system font DPI settings, default font size, browser window width, etc. What I'd like to see however would be some rules against the excessive use of blank lines, bbcode [quote] (which wastes screen space to no real purpose), and a blanket ban on animated gifs.

I agree with. We shouldn't make too many blanket rules but we need to set some standards. A lot people are going to be screwed on low end computers.


Here is my Proposal:

• No animated pics
  size limited to 160 x 240
  Minimal BBcode (determined by mods or popular consent
  Minimum of Unecessary line spaces

I'd be all for banning pictures in sigs altogether, but that's just me.

It's only when a sig gets HUGE, like Lex's right now, that I get irritated.

And it's good that someone knocked some sense into THEHOOLIGANJEDI. I was getting so fucking sick of his animation-slow down-fest.

You know what would be REALLY evil? Putting JAVA in a sig! Every time I hit a site that uses Java, my computer STOPS for a whole minute to load the JVM.... I really hate pointless java tricks like a page full of fphovers (Fphovers are an incredibly wasteful way of making a mouseover effect..) or gratuitous ripple applets... Oh great I just gave the trolls an idea...

I say NO to sig censorship.

I value my sig, which is perfectly reasonably sized and spaced IMHO.

At least it's not like WLunaris way back on Gundam Project Message Board. That Nazi bastard had a signature that was easily 2-3 PAGES long.
