Ok, say that, for some reason, they are directly thrust into the conflict. How does it happen? What side would they be forced onto? Could entirely new sides emerge? How would this affect the course of the war?

I think they'd fight the Dominion, since it would probably act aggresive towards them. They'd tell the Feddies to stay out of their way, then use their expansive military, ground and space, to give them a massive advantage and beat the Dominion. After that, the Federation stands in awe of this mighty warrior race and tries to ally with them.Cyril wrote:Grrr.

Until the Dominion makes the mistake of attacking the Protoss.
As of the 2200s, Earth made a warp drive that could travel to a sector 60,000 LY in about 30 years, and it is unkown if this was a straight line.
As of 2500, Earth had a warp drive that could cover a straightline 60,000 LY in an unkown amount of time.
"After monitoring the Protoss and Zerg for several months, the UED gathered data on the strengths and weaknesses of the two races."
From this, we can gather that the UED has an insane FTL drive. I'd peg it's ability to travel that distance anywhere from week(s) to a few months. We do know that they msut enter a sort of cryo-sleep, but it is unknown whether this is due to time in space, time silation, or simply the effects of warpspace.
However, the greatest piece of evidence are these:
The UED victory report. It was meant to be nearly real time. I'd say that they can communicate the 60,000LY from the Koprulu sector to Earth in, at most, a week, and more likely a day or so.
In his letter to his wife, DuGaulle says, "By now, the news of our defeat has reached the Earth."
This defeat took place at most a few days prior.
Why is this important? Because the Protoss regard the Humans as primitive in every respect. I'd say Protoss capabilities are well above these. Their FTL in regard to warping is near-instant. However, their FTL on their ships is up to debate, but I'd peg it as equal, and most likely superior, to EUD designs.
