Actually, the highest murder rates in the country are in one of the Southern states: Louisiana. You are relying on a movie-generated stereotype.
Really...my delusional mind must have imagined these facts right here then:
According to the numbers, DC outranked all major cities, and is again the nation's "murder capital."

Immediately following DC on the list were Detroit (the winner in 2001), Baltimore, Memphis, Chicago and Philadelphia (in that order).

In my previous post I was just saying that people shouldn't be so hasty to deride the south, when the north has just as many problems.

The District of Columbia is neither a state nor a city, but rather the National Capital Territory.

Are you not aware of the movement to grant DC statehood?

Hmm lets seee

DC (In the middle)
Baltimore (Definite Northerner city)
Memphis (South)
Chicago (North)
Philly (North)

So in the US, the top murder rate goes to 1 city in the middle between
the North and South, 1 goes to the South, and 3 go to the North. Hmmm...

The instant I didn't see New Orleans on the full list I knew the study is useless. Only the biggest cities are counted, only a third of which are southern. Your list of top five doesn't mean jack nor shit. Try to come up with something better.

For those of you interested, here is a more accurate list, based off the origional source from here. These are top cities via murder rates per 100,000 in 2001. I had to copy and sort these by hand so if you want to check it yourself for errors please be my guest.

San Juan-Bayamon, PR 25.8
New Orleans, LA 20.0
Gary, IN 18.7
Caguas, PR 17.8
Ponce, PR 16.1
Memphis, TN-AR-MS 15.3
Jackson, MS 14.5
Topeka, KS 14.1
Jackson, TN 13.8
Savannah, GA 13.3
Fayetteville, NC 12.0
Birmingham, AL 11.9
Baltimore, MD 11.7
Mobile, AL 11.6
Flint, MI 11.6
Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA 11.1
Shreveport-Bossier City, LA 11.0
Richmond-Petersburg, VA 10.9
Detroit, MI 10.8
Biloxi-Gulfport-Pascagoula, MS 10.7
Montgomery, AL 10.5
Baton Rouge, LA 10.5
Las Vegas, NV-AZ 10.5

And for those of you who are probably wondering, the DC and Philly areas had a murder rate less than 10.0, and oddly enough Chicago isn't in the database :?:

Notice how Nathan Fucktard tries to cite a study based on the "annual number of murders per 100,000 residents in American cities with populations greater than 500,000"; a deliberately weighted figure since it consciously ignores all cities with populations below 500,000 and will naturally focus on more urbanized states as a result.

And I respectfully concede. My argument was being based off of warped numbers, and I actually didn't notice the little tidbit about it only being on cities of 500,000 or greater.
