Okay, I think I see the sponson mounts now. It's just folded in on the one tank that has it's flank exposed. And the one in the background is firing it's sponson mount from where we can't see the barrel; I'd assumed that was coming from the Chaos Marines. And cool laser sights. And yeah, I think I make out the Demolisher down there next to the twin linked forward bolters. Damn, that's a big barrel.

And I feel sorry for that poor, lone Guardsman charging across the crosswalk there.

Youch!! That Baneblade looks painful!

That weapons list soo dwarfs the Land Raider's. :D

The Land Raider is an APC. What'd you expect? :P

Hah, when I read the thread title I was all prepared to come in and post an indignant comment about getting my hopes up for an expansion, but...

Controlling a full-IG army should be interesting; hopefully they'll incorporate it into single-player as well.

The Rhino is an APC. The Land Raider has no modern-day analogue. It's more of a MBT/APC/AFV all rolled into one package.

I found some more pics:

I await that tank.

The Rhino is a totally unarmed APC. I suppose the closest analogue the Land Raider has is an IFV, and not even that's quite right.

Imperial guard? Unless they get a massive vehicle cap i bet they suck.

But damn does the Baneblade look nice. All they need now is a Shadow sword, some manticores, maybe a deathstrike, hydras for taking down orks and all the different Leman Russ variants.

 I'm going to need more Brightlances!
On the plus side, I thinkmy banshees will do wonders against the yummy little IG infantry, they don't have that hard Space Marine shell on the outside, just the gooey caramel center that my Banshees live for

Anyone know, offhand, of any good mods/maps for Dawn of War that might get us back into it? :)

In regular 40K, Banshees suck against Guard, because Banshees are designed to take down high-morale, heavily armored, fewer numbered troops. It's a lesson Thirdfain never learned, but Guardian Squads and Striking Scorpions are the best CC solution against Guard.

Though I suppose some liberties have to be taken with the game. Banshees should still be mowed down by the amazing flashlight brigade.

Guardians? I might as well spit at them!

Actually, last I checked, it was me. Plus you have the pain of being whupped by Marcao on his VERY first game, where you had free troop respawns. :P

Nope, I'm certain it was me. This memory is so glorious it does not fade. I took out your heavy weapons platoon with jetbikes. It was one of those games where the region was cut into 4 quarters.

One way to do the Imperial Guard is to use the standard IG infantry as light troops(like Chaos cultists) and use some non-SM and non-IG unit (like sisters of battle) as (heavy) Infantry.

Cultists? I think you mean cannon fodder!

call it what ever wish (in DoW IG is useless with out tanks).

Sheer numbers make them useful as front-liners, in the few missions you get control of them. Back 'em up with (in stock DoW) bolter and missile squads and you have a pretty good killzone on the cheap.

or tanks (I used fully upgraded IG squad with Leman Russ tanks (two per squad IIRC) for support to stop Chaos attacks in one mission.

Going by the thread concerning the expansion on Relic's forums Link They'll be using new voices and models for the IG, as opposed to the ones from DoW. Hopefully this will include some slightly more effective flashlights (possibly some deployable heavy weapons as well?) for the much-maligned IG infantry.
Well well...I see our little announcement has sparked the rampant speculation, again!

First off, it's worth pointing out that we didn't choose the Imperial Guard simply because we had already included a few IG units in the original DoW. In fact, we've thrown out the IG units from DoW and made new ones that are more appropriate for the Expansion (so, no reuse at all!). We're creating new effects, voice work, the whole nine yards.

And as Tranj pointed out, our work on the Expansion does not preclude continued support for DoW. In fact, from your point of few, it guarantees continued support for DoW because an Expansion is in effect an additional investment in the original on THQ's part.

As for the 3 screenshots listed above, the Baneblade concept piece is not from a pre-rendered movie. It was used internally as concept art to illustrate the massive tank firing its weapons. Pretty effective, isn't it?

How many brightlances does it take to get to the center of a Leman Russ? The world may never know

This, of course, begs the question of why in the Emperor's name the Space Marines tool around in a glorified pickup truck (Land Raider) when there are nice, shiny Baneblade tanks just begging to be used. SCREW APC CAPABILITY.

It looks good. Hopefully the Imperial Guard will be given a set of balls in this expansion.

Decent heavy weapons, commissars, artillery, thud guns, tarantula cannons, mole mortars, ratling snipers, ogryns, and storm troopers.

Or even half of that would be cool.

Thirdfain wrote:You know what would kick ass? Dark Eldar. They wouldn't need upgrades or Relics to produce more advanced units, rather, they'd need to capture slaves (with some special slave capturing unit) from enemy squads with broken morale. The more slaves they had captured, the wider the range of units they could build would be.

Wouldn't that kick ass?
Pfft, we don't need goth space elves. :P If anyone, they should have gone with Tyranids for something a little more variant from the rest of the sides.
Fun - say, why don't we play Dawn of War evenings anymore?
I've been pretty busy lately. This weekend's no good for me.

Thudd guns? Mole Mortars? That's going back a bit. Why not give them conversion beams as well, they rocked.
