It definately needs some polishing. I haven't seen any major bugs so far, but a few of the controls are different, and sometimes annoying. Landing on a base for example, is different than the original game.

Well, keep in mind that it's based on an engine whose developers consider to be at version 0.4.3 right now. It's still feature time, and not so much polish time. Not a reason to play something, sure, but a good reason not to expect top quality, at least not yet.
Also, if any of the keyboard commands are annoying, I believe there's a config file you can edit.

Is there a config file to edit regarding your bank account?

What I liked the most about Space Sims like X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and Privateer is that you were in charge of everything, flying, shield configs, weapon power, etc. These days, space sims are just arcade games made "easier" for complaining little pussies.

Hell ya! I might be able to beat this game now. Had it for my old 486, got to a particular mission I just couldn't win and never got back to it. Nothing better than tricking out the ship to suit your mood. Freelancer was a big disappointment when one has played Privateer previously.

Ah yes, but does it include Righteous Fire as well?

This looks intresting.
But between FS2 SCP, and the way too many campaigns for it, your filled for life, best Space Sim ever.

This just occured to me: if someone cared enough to make a Privateer remake, does anyone care enough to make a Wingcommander remake?

Kickass, thanks for the link.
I played through the game and the expansion set as well. The good part was you could ignore the main story and fly around destroying shit and come back to the story later.

I wonder about the cargo runs. Do they require certain levels of space? I am going to bypass the Orion and go for the Demon. I've already heard some sweet stuff about the Demon and it looks to be a good fighter.

If it works just like Vega Strike, just open your save file in a text editor, and it should be the first number there. Just move the decimal point over, don't change the number of digits. I haven't gotten around to playing this yet.

Okay, I've just started it up, I haven't even bothered reading the manual yet, but a couple of questions.
1. Whats the key to display all the instrumentation in a hud style view?
2. Is there a gamma control somewhere, the menu screens are pretty dark. (I suspect a new monitor may be in order soon)
So far, so good. This is bringing back some memories. Now who's going to do Pacific Strike or Strike Commander?

I haven't downloaded it yet but....
You can actually buy a DEMON!?!?!?
Also, do they have the 'Righteous Fire' expansion pack missions as well? With the upgrades in that, even the old Tarsus wasn't a complete POS.

Yes. This is not a straight port of the game. It is a remake and as such they have added in new options to the game. One of them is making more of the craft flyable and byable by the player. I know you can still buy the Orion, Galaxy, and Centurion. You can now buy a Tarsus if you wish. The Demon, Talon, and Draymon are also buyable. The Demon can only be purchased if you join the Mercanry Guild, IIRC same with the Orion. The Talon can only be purchased after a particular plot mission. You can buy stock ships for original prices or you can buy milspech for a LOT more expensive. Milspec come with a shitload of mods and weapons and some items that you can't get else wise. Milspec are also more difficult to mod.

Yes, and some of the RF upgrades are available right away when you play the game. Right now my Tarsus is doing better then I've ever had one play as.

I saw the draymon, but the demon

daddy want... What are the specs for it?

I noticed that as well. They managed to do a good job of balancing the ships more than they were. A centurion can still kick my ass, but I've got a fighting chance for example. Also, the prices for many of the mods seems to have been adjusted which makes it more realistic IMHO..

You can also get the Gladius. Haven't seen the Talon around for sale.
EDIT : Still haven't seen the Talon... but when you beat the main storyline, you get to buy Stilletos, Broadswords... and fucking PARADIGMS. (At 8.7 mil a piece!)
EDIT x2 : I also recall reading the manual to this remake, they mention cloaks. Coupled with the fact that you can dock with capital ships, including the Kilrathi's... I suspect that you can get Kilrathi ships in this game as well.

The Demon has a little less armor and weapons capacity then the Centurion, but IIRC it maxes out with much better speed, acceleration, and manueverability. The Centurion stock costs 200K while the Demon costs 125K and the Demon Milspec is 185K.
Can anyone give me an idea how the Stilleto, Gladius, or Broadsword stack up against the Centurion, Demon, or Orion?

I was told you can buy them after you start doing missions from the pirate base. I think you can buy them from pirate bases.

let me just say that the fucking demon is the shit! I have one tricked out pretty much as far as you can (2 ion cannons and two neutron guns, anything bigger uses too much power and she won't carry a heavy reactor) and that sonofabitch will hit 1100 kps at full afterburn!

Buy one what? Stiletto, Broadsword or Paradigm (and a reminder of what the Paradigm was wouldn't hurt, either)?
If I have to basically finish the game (as per Cyborg Stan's post)before being able to buy those that's kinda pointless I think
