All sorts of groups really. None of them seem impressive in comparison to the Republic or the Empire, but that's pretty much the point.

How am I supposed to do anything in the SW universe without learning basic?

Keep in mind-English is not a language there. There are no reference materials, so it would be very difficult to learn Basic.

The Republic also beat down plenty of Sith Empires over the years.

During the OldRepublic there were no fleets.
Empire: Rebels attack Kuat.
New Republic: Empire and Pirates attack.
NJO: The Kuat shipyards is destroyed.
They weren't destroyed in the NJO, that's never mentioned. The GFFA lost control of the Kuat System, but it's never said that the shipyards there are destroyed.

Yeah, I remember that now.

IIRC there were two Sith wars. 1 was 1000ybY and the other was 10000ybY.

SO the question is would I like to become a homeless practically illiterate bum with no resources in a place where I don't speak the language.

Dumb Question. Of course not.

I think, isnt 100%, that they said in the last book that the Kuat system was invaded after the Bitch died.

Err. No. A jedi is no match for a space ship. Fine. Let's get the Old Republic fleet list out.

Dreadnought light cruisers.
Leviathan class destroyer(?)s.
Jedi Fighters,
Republic Cruisers (TPM)

Additionally, member systems within the Republic had starfleets.

Naboo had fighers which may or may not be hyperspace capable.
Kauti Mandator class Dreadnoughts
Kauti Procurator class Battlecruisers.
Kauti Firespray class PT boats

As of the clone wars they also had:
Victory class star destroyers
Venator class star destroyers
Acclamator class troop transports

Not really indicative of no navy whatsoever is it?

Without knowing Basic or having any Star Wars money, I'd be screwed. So no.

But mostly because I couldn't leave my family, my friends, my responsabilities to live in a universe where writers from this universe will guide my fate.

Well, maybe if I become a SW Author and write a novel about one Tristan Robertson, a strange bum becoming the new Emperor of the Galaxy from his capital on Zeltros, but until then no.

I'd take it in an instant. Ask to be transported to an Imperial Army recruiting center and take along an english dictionary. The recruiting center will have a protocol droid that should be able to learn English and than I can get in the Army and they'll teach me Basic.

No. Too much too lose. Too much to adapt to. Besides, I don't even know Basic.

I'd probably go to Naboo. I wager they'd have a good social welfare system for a guy who understands no Basic or has anything.

It would be a cool place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there forever.

Sure, we have nukes in our real world, but the idea that somebody can come along and literally destroy your planet really bites. That and if you go by the EU, wanky aliens, crazy Admirals and mad Dark Jedi trying to take over the galaxy every other week would get old fast.

Would be cool to explore the galaxy, but I'd like to come home eventually.

Now if I were a "hero character" who would be assured the writers would never kill me off or get a thrill out of torturing me all the time or behave like an idiot when it suites them, it wouldn't be so bad. ;)
