Yes, and also Qui-Gon and company would have known more about the planet if it weren't a member of the Republic. They would have tried to go to a Republic embassy or whatever and most definitely would have gotten the help they needed.

Whoops, I meant if it WERE a member of the Republic.

The Republic was good before the reformation 1000 before the movies that emasculated the central government and made corperations and NGOs more powerful.
The Jedi were also better before that sith War, look at the old comic series, they leave the common people to their business, and kick asshole oppressors' ass (Royalty on Onderon) without waiting from orders from some PC arrogant-ass traditionalist Temple.
They lost their balls and became conservative and orthodox and rigid. The Prequel-era Jedi are a sad hollow shell of their former selves and are deserving of disbandment if reform is impossible.
That said, the Empire was much much much worse. I politically indoctrinating oppressive police state that destroyed one of its own most beautiful worlds, the Empire was a blight which hardly corrected the corruption problems of the "reformed" Republic and the Old Jedi Order.
The New Republic didn't get that the Old Republic's way of doing things was obviously flawed, and attempted to copy it. It is a poor replacement for the Empire.
The New Jedi Order is suffering birth pangs and a lot of issues, but I see a return to the Ancient Jedi Order's ideals and practices, which is GOOD. The Vong will force the New Republic's effective reformation and will bring it together with the Imperial Remnant for an actually affective government. One good thing the NJO has done.

Union with the Remnant?

The representative for the Alderaanian refugees who was elected Senator for the Alderaan Sector has been elected Chief of State in Destiny's Way.
He's planning on pushing through a lot of reforms, democraticing the NR, federalizing the gov't structure, and really cleaning shit up. It was also quite implied that the Imperial Remnant is going to be a partner with New Republic Remnant in the new galactic government.

Fuck no. Pellaeon will never allow that. He's seen what the NR is like
as it gets raped by the Vong. If I was an imperial citizen, I would freaking
REVOLT if I learned that the Empire was joining with the NR.

Stormtroopers would pay a visit to your house and blast it down to the ground. You chose to be an Imperial citizen, so you chose to give up your rights as an Imperial citizen.

Sorry, but private citizens don't own E-11s in the Imperial Remnant, only your friendly neighborhood COMPNOR political officer or your friendly neightborhood stormtrooper.
And the New Republic is being given a facelift and a overhaul. Cal Omas has some grand new concepts and the old speciest morons are dead, discredited, out of power, or resigned. The new government will be different.
Read the fucking book or fucking find a good exerpt before fucking spewing your fucking meaningless tripe.

Why should I waste my time when I know the plot: NR gets overrun
and is brutally assraped, Coruscant is fucked, etc etc.
Doesnt' exactly inspire confidence in the NR, does it, now?

Proof of this. In SW, we see individuals having Megaton level Starship
weaponry, much less a blaster.

Not to mention gigaton if not teratons, such as Boosters Imperator.

Also, they do not take into account the fact that the Imperial Remnant's
citizens have been watching the NR be assraped mercilessly over and over
on their giant holoscreens, showing Coruscant taken and assraped
by the Vong, along with a bunch of NR Peace Brigade assholes running around...
Meanwhile, their own planets have been untouched by the Vong, and A lot
of them are going "Hmm, could it be because we have a workable government
and a workable military? Maybe the Emperor was right all along about
the Rebellion...."
Face the Facts, the VONG are an Imperial Propagandists wet dream,
showing how utterly pathetic the NR is...

It would take a Goebbels-level propagandist to make the Imps actually
merge with what's left of the NR at this point without massive civil unrest.

The Remnant must rebuild it's mighty fleets, go forth, and drive the Vong from the Core! Once Coruscant and Kuat are once again in Imperial hands, the glory of the Empire can be restored. The Yuuzhan Vong will be driven before the might of the Imperial fleets and the galaxy shall recieve it's deliverance!

Imperial citizens have no say in the government and the decision would be Pallaeon's. If the
new New Republic leaders could convince him they aren't fucking around anymore through actions and possibly negotiations, he might consider allying with it. Concession denied.

Anyone like to show how Booster was the average Imperial citizen, lay-biding and all? He's a criminal hiding in warzones. Tattoine also your example? Hutt-controlled pisshole. The Essential Guide the Weapons and Technology talks about lots of planets with weapon-controls laws.
5 miles away a nut made enough homemade explosive to carryout the ending scene of
Fight Club. He had several AKs, M-16s, P90s, and numerous pistols. He had several GPMGs with ammo, several LAWs and other missiles. Does this mean that the avg. citizen can do this and Bush and his Patriot act whackos want them to? Riiiiight.
It doesn't really fucking matter what you think Shep, only what the Del Rey people and the authors think.
Furthermore, the whole point of the union is to give the new galactic government the balls that the NR didn't have, not to emasculate the government of the racist utopian Imperial Remnant ruled by an incompetant who took 40 years or service and the death of his commanding officer to finally be promoted to line captain.

The Empire's record: implodes into the command of numerous incompetants because it could only work when one particular man was ruling it until it is rebuilt by an incompetant officer who took more than 40 years to get promoted to line captain while other officers were line captains fresh from the academy.

Uh-huh. The
decades of hatred aren't going to do a thing to impede this, huh?

The Imperial Remnant is also an Empire, so citizens don't get a say.. What else... Oh yea.. While the only encounter between Imperial and Vong forces was basically a beat down, you forget the Vong outnumber the Remnant. By alot. Fucking idiot.

If anything, the Vong have held off on the Remnant because they have a greater degree of respect for the Imperial way of life (still heretics, just not as much as the NR). It's clear that if the Vong were to manage to take over the Galaxy completely in the end, the Remnant wouldn't last long at all.

Why are you agreeing with Shep when saying the decades of hatred will impede the NR and IR allying when the other points you bring up are reasons for the NR and IR allying?
