Simple: Jinn is ill-informed. And there are fewer limiting factors on the Jedi-spirit-immortality. Jedi spirits can appear in many places - Yavin, Hoth, and Dagobah for starters are all places where Obi-Wan appeared to guide Luke. AND as far as we know, you cannot destroy Jedi spirits. You very much can destroy Sith spirits - both Freedon Nadd and Exar Kun are good examples.

The Sith spirits only survived by binding their spirit to a physical object.

And Palpatine cheats the spirit immortality by inhabiting body after body after body. And in a way, the result does reflect this "cheat" - its is so unnatural that the Force degrades the bodies in just a few years.

Ummmm, this is going on spoiler territory here (well you and Spartan already brought it up), but I'll shrink for everyone else's benifit; How can you use Obi-Wan as your example? He learned to do that from Jinn. I don't understand what you're saying.

I'm saying EITHER Jinn is misinformed, OR the Jedi immortality refers to the spirit realm, where they can move about at will and apparently cannot be destroyed, whereas a Sith has limited mobility and can be destroyed. Immortality can also refer to invulnerability. Palpatine's spirit had to hop from body to body precisely because it could not achieve immortality and would dissipate if not ensconced in a body.

Ahh, in that case it's the latter (spirit realm), although Yoda's dialogue in RotJ leaves the option open that a sufficiently powerful Jedi could achieve physical immortality.

Remember that even Obi-wan reached a point where he could no longer contact Luke. So much for more powerful than you can imagine. :(

It could be that you do eventually lose all sense of self and fade into the white noise of the Force; or even moving on to some higher plane of existence. We have know Idea really; but even Jedi are limited in their spectral state.

I know that Anakin speaks to Leia at least once, but did Yoda ever reappear after Jedi?

Another point...an yes, I know I am begging the question
:P If Qui-gon is now part of the living force, and the force is connected to all that is; how can he be miss informed? I mean he at least has died and come back!

I just wonder what commentary GL will pull out of his ass when the ROTS DVD comes out?

Sorry for the oh-so-obvious quote, but.."War makes not one great!", to quote the Y-man himself.

Yoda chose how to die; I always got the feeling that he was happy leaving the Jedi legacy behind to Luke. And he did have about 900 years...that's a pretty good run, by most estimates.

This is mirrored by what Palpatine had HOPED to do - eventually craft a body purely from the Dark Side that would never age or deterioriate, and within which he could live forever without the need to inhabit clones.

Ulic Qel-Droma's spirit was still around in the PT era.

Congratulations Primus, you've done the impossible.

That little insight actually helps me almost not detest Dark Empire.

I'm being sincere here, by the way.

Thus showing just how truly powerful Anakin is in the Force. Able to contain Palpatine into a single feeble entity while flinging him into the abyss. Count it.

This is completely innappropriate for this particular forum but I knew Anubis' body hopping in season 8 felt extremely familiar right down to the negative effects on the host, this thread helped jog my thought process ;)
