If you're talking about deciding on whether or not to buy a Mac or PC for the first-time buyer, yes. But, many people still run Windows 98, and it still crashes. Apple wants to get those people to switch to OS X, so they focus on what they're running currently and the Mac they could be running in the future. It's called marketing, and frankly, it's the only reason they're still around.

So "air of mystique" = stoned, eh?

And why the hell would Apple hire her if she's only 15? That seems almost too young for someone to buy a comp.

I hate most of those adds, as well. All they seems to do is perpetuate the stereotype that Mac uses are total dorks that do nothing but make arty shit.

They are trying to hit different demographics. The teenager student would need a computer and so is a good demographic to target. Of course it is the parents that are paying for them.

Yeah, but 15 is really young to star in an ad. Add to that that she looks about 17-18, and I'll assume that she initially lied about her age to Apple when they hired her.

I just recognized the excretible song that ESB quoted.

Shit, I heard my son of a bitch roommate play that last year, while his bastard friends listened/laughed. Almost made me want to beat him to death.

I fucking hate that "song".

Well, sorry you feel that way, but I though it would be appropriate given the nature of the topic.

Read her interview. She really is 15, and she was on the set when the guy doing the commercials decided to have her do one because he needed another one done.

Don't companies need permission to use her face on products? It seemed that she found out after the fact.

Her parents gave permission.

I meant the t-shirts and stuff.

"Feiss is amused that people have T-shirts and coffee mugs decorated with her face, but avoids online newsgroups "because she's heard from friends there's some very weird stuff there," Frechette said. "

It sounds like she doesn't know everything that was being made with her image.

Most likely widespread bootlegs/unauthorised merchendice.
