The relationship between midichlorians and the Force is so debateable that it would be hard to rule out anyone becoming a Jedi on those grounds alone.

It seemed to me that TPM said that midichlorians are the things that communicate with the Force. Therefore, while all life has it and it does not make everyone a jedi, it is nonetheless a prerequisite to force sensitivity. That is my theory based on the movie.

The Force appears to grant combat ABILITIES, but combat is not the goal of the Jedi. Jocasta Nu, for example, is clearly not a combat-oriented Jedi.

While fighting is to be avoided and some Jedi don't have much skill in that direction: They're called Jedi Knights for a reason. They're too act as peacekeepers and have the skills in most cases to back it up. The vast majority of the Jedi are training to act as warrior-statesmen.

And lets not forget that one of the important badges of a Jedi is the lightsaber. Hardly the mark of an organization of pacifits.

I don't think they are so different. Circumstance have certianly changed them. Twenty some years and seeing everything you knew, strove for and loved come crashing down with yourself to blame will change anyone. We're seeing them as young characters, they're far removed from the people they were. After such and upheaval I can see how they'd change.

And Obi-wan seems a lot like he should. There are hints in ANH and the rest of the OT that he was a lot more cocky and less contemplative in his youth than he was in the OT. And he sounds a lot like Qui-gon did.

I don't think Yoda was out of his element in the second movie; he was a Jedi of the warrior caste (God, sounds Minbari) and trained Luke in combat as well as mental techniques. He was clearly tired and struggling by the time the combat was over, and he had to drop everything to save Obi-Wan and Anakin...

I got a clear line of character development from each of the characters; I even did a double take at the line Obi-Wan says in AotC at the beginning of the movei: "You'l be the death of me someday, Anakin." "Don't talk like that, Master."

And in TPM, I got the impression that midichlorians are a result of having the force-- they are attracted to a person who has strong force ability, not the cause of it.

Erg...making them asexual was a dumb move. Before that, we had male and female Hutts. Now they say one side is dominant. Yeah.

He was trained as a Jedi Knight during the OR, helped Dyzm trying to take over the galaxy, and tried to control Leia. She chopped him up. I guess that makes him one of the bad guys.
