What's to say we can't apply skills we learn through environmental reclamation (from cleaning up our pollution) in terraforming other planets?
Certainly they're not exactly the same, and cleaning up the Earth, which was orignally meant for human life would be much easier, but the principles are similar: basically removing all the crap that we don't want and making sure there's enough of the stuff that we do want.
