I think it was more a case of his controlling his hate made him powerful. Yoda and Obi-Wan had really stressed the danger of the Dark Side in a way that no one ever did with Anakin. Luke was also less arrogant than Anakin. It doesn't seem to me that he ever flirted even as close to the Dark Side as Anakin did with the Sand People or killing Dooku. Luke learned self control, and was inherently better at it than his father. I think that's what gave him greater power.

I guess I'm agreeing in a roundabout way.
Shit like this is why I'm kind of glad it isn't legal to go around punching people in the crotch. You'd be able to track my movement from orbit from the sheer mass of idiots I'd leave lying on the ground clutching their privates in my wake. -- Mr. Coffee

Following up on that point, if the Falcon was able to meet the Rebel fleet while said fleet was still at the Hoth evacuation rendezvous point, then the Falcon's total travel time couldn't have been too long. I could see the fleet waiting a few weeks to gather stragglers and make repairs, but probably not a year.

FWIW, IIRC the 4LOM/Zuckuss story in "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" does confirm that the location of the fleet at the end of TESB is the rendezvous point. So we don't have to worry about the possibility that the fleet had moved to another point and the Falcon simply caught up to them at their latest rally point (which would make the timeline more ambiguous).

He was able to draw back after his rage- but just look and listen to Luke as he goes ape shit on Vader- ther's no hint of self-control there, he's fully in a Dark Side rage. It was only after that he got his self-control, I think.

He gained more time to practice,
albeight not at the ludicrous rate that he improved with Yoda,

Still why shouldnt he continue to improve at a reduced rate while scouring the galaxy for Han Solo while trying out all his nifty new powers

Genius is always allowed some leeway, once the hammer has been pried from its hands and the blood has been cleaned up.
To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.

If you think about it, it was very similar to the scene in RotS, at the begining. Palpatine's not-yet-apprentice using his anger to kill the former apprentice. Luke was angry at the fact the Rebels might lose, where Anakin was angry that a huge piece of metal had just landed on Kenobi. The only difference is that Anakin beheads Dooku, while Luke throws his saber away.

Luke was definately using darkside rage. Palpatine was trrying to get him to use his anger, and he was using it to defeat Vader. Just look at the way Luke keeps chopping away at him, even though he is defeated, until Palpatine breaks the spell by saying "Finish him". He even cut's off Vader's lightsaber hand, like Anakin did to Dooku. It was when he realized he was becoming like his father- the Emperor's next apprentice- that he stopped.
