but number of blades does not equal number of attacks you can block. If that were true then Dooku would have fell to Anakin in the AotC and then again in RotS vs Anakin and Obi Wan then Sidious would have fell really fast in RotS versus the four masters and Obi Wan would have fell before Grievous but alas Obi Wan was able to block multiple saber attacks with one blade.
true it possible possible block several blows at same time with just one blade, but the configuration of Maul's blade limits his movements, plus Kenobi doesn't block all of Grievous' blows he dodges some and block the rest.

Also whats important about Greivous is al though he has four arms and four sabres, he does not use them indepedantly, in any complicated matter. Except for the circular saw hand bit and when he kills the two Jeid protecting Palpy in Clone wars. Both his arms on either side do exactly the same thing.

Obi-Wan often blocks two sabres at the same time becuase both arms make the same move at the same time, like in most cases if you try and move oly your little finger, your third finger moves in the same way.

Its makes me wonder if Kaleesh naturally have four arms so Greivous cannot manipulate them well.

According to the novelization he could attack independently, at different angles with each saber due to computer chip's and a heuristic combat algorithim.
He may not have shown this due to injuries :?: but it is something that he can do.

The Visionaries comic, and common sense.

1. AFAIK all the early comics with the General shows that his original bodyframe had 5 fingers; Therefore his arms were modified at a later date. Why? To give him the split-hands ability, presumably.

2. If 4 arms were his natural state he'd spend most of the time in that state; In fact he spends most of the time in 2-arms mode.

3. If the Kaleesh naturally had 4 arms it wouldn't shock the Jedi he meets when he splits them.

He was modified so that he had two opposite thumb's.
2. If 4 arms were his natural state he'd spend most of the time in that state; In fact he spends most of the time in 2-arms mode.
He probably does that so he can have two extra hand's up his sleeves in a fight (Like in clone war's)

They were shocked because they saw that he had pulled out two more saber's and was going to slaughter them despite their sabers being locked.

What about when he's not not fighting, hmm? Does he have to pretend to his own battledroids?

But if Kaleesh naturally have 4 arms, IT WOULDN'T HAVE SHOCKED THEM.

Now, just go back to that itty bit where I said there was proof in Visionaries (which hasn't got an Infinities label. So nyah.)

I thought it was non-continuity. :?

Perhaps that's just the Maul story.

Even if it was non-continuity, I don't see why the drawings of the Kaleesh would be thrown out.

Regarding the main discussion.. the reason why Grievous relies on fear, surprise and intimidation is to disallow the Jedi the state of mind they need to access their suite of Force powers, including use of telekinesis to attack or hamper their opponents' movements and more importantly, short-term precognition.. critical in lightsaber combat.
Without the aid of the Force, the Jedi fight on a level not much higher than a normal organic being would, which means the capabilities of Grievous' mechanically enhanced reflexes and physique would far exceeds theirs.

To begin with, Darth Maul is a Sith Lord. His capabilities in raw combat can be expected to be on par with, or exceed, those of many Jedi Masters. Regardless, his considerable combat prowess isn't even the issue; it's whether or not Grievous would be able to psyche out the Zabrak or not. Unlike the pacifistic Jedi, the Sith revel in combat.
Assuming GG was unable to achieve the trio of fear, surprise and intimidation, GG can simply stick to the plan that Tyranus had ingrained in him: flee, away and hope that Maul isn't as persistent a pursuer as Obi-Wan was.

What's Maul's favourite line? "Fear is my ally . . ."

This is kind of off topic but what would happen if Greivous had his magnaguards.

I thought his favourite line was "At least we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi, at last we will have revenge."

Not that there was too much competition for that title.

True true, but c'mon, Maul's most potent thing he ever said was his whole fear thing.

He never says it in the movie. But it is out there. I heard it in the music video on The TPM video game. He says it at the beginning of Duel of the Fates, and talks about fear as being a weapon.

And, if this really counts, In the Star Wars: Visionaries comic, there's a picture of Maul wreathed in lightning, which may or may not be used as evidence of power.

I give this to Darth Maul regardless of whether it's Clone Wars or not.

Remember, if you use Clone Wars Grievous, you have to pit him against a comparably boosted Clone Wars Maul.

Quite frankly, Obi-Wan easily outfought Grievous with lightsabres, and that was Maul's best skill.

I foresee four droid hands flying away in short order, followed by more thorough dismemberment.
