Er, what? :wtf:
I think he means FF X-2. Which might I add was extraordinarly weird. Being a fan of FFX, I thought I'd get into it. I...didn't, to say the least. It felt so disconnected and random.

I dis like puzzles in RPG's. I am not talking about plot puzzles, but stupid little puzzles that you have to figure out to open a door.

Now plot puzzles, thats a different story, I love them. Granted not exactly an RPG, but games like Starflight I and II, and Starcontrol II are excellent examples of good stories and adventures, which have puzzle, but not meaningless puzzles.

I think I miss freedom in RPG's the most. Like huge maps to explore, to go where you want to.

So do you think that the only type of skill that exists is your ability to hit buttons correctly at speed? Perhaps you should play one of the various combat oriented RPGs where your skill at handling your entire squad is entirely in your brain. I'd suggest Nahlakh as a good starter. The first battle will kill you repeatedly if you can't play tactically.

I'm not a huge RPG fanatic, but I've played my share from back in the day (Phantasy Star 2 on the Genesis was my initiation! my brother and I both played through it).

It could be that we're looking at this from a different perspective. When we were kids, video games like that were far more impressive, because we had yet to be jaded by system after system with more and more impressive graphics, peripherals, support, and mega hype. We also had kid attention spans and kid intelligence. We also had kids allowances/perks and lots of time to waste. Now we just don't (most of us, who have grown up) have the time and patience to waste on those types of games. But we may harbor nostalgia.

I don't know where I'm going with this. Don't get me wrong, "grinding" at a game is addictive. It makes you feel like you "accomplished something" to get your reward. But yes, it is lazy programming, and yes, it is monotonous and a waste of time. I'd prefer a more interesting challenge or puzzle or something besides just killing the same cluster of enemies over and over and over... etc for hours or days until I've finally reached that "magic number" (or worse, just to stroke my own ego!) to move on.

Though I will give you that there are some obsessive gamers out there, that beat 15+ hour games in one sitting (and then often either whine that it was a waste, or turn around and beat it a second time the next day). These seem to be the same hyperactive individuals who see a movie 20+ times in the theater in a month though too... :)

I don't know where they get the time & money, but I'd sure like some of it!

I am very sleepy right now...but, I think I meant to put in like VII or something. The one that substituted content for ridiculously long unskippable summoning bullshit.
