That is the exact same type of responses as the first e-mail exchange. This man is mentaly deranged. Unless you openly kiss his ass in high noon in the writing of your e-mail, he is going to brush you off.

Whats sad is he mixes in truth with lies. He campaigns on the platform of keeping these games away from children, but will lash out at people who want to keep computer games for adults.

You know, I posted this link in regards to a thing on drug prohibition, but I found that with Jack Thompson, he's using the exact same arguements for video games. Once again, I'll sum up, basically replacing "drugs" with "video games".

1. Video games are associated with a hated subgroup of the society (gamers, young people) or a foreign enemy.

2. Video games are identified as solely responsible for many problems in the culture, i.e., crime, violence, and insanity.

3. The survival of the culture is pictured as being dependent on the prohibition of violent video games.

4. The concept of "responsible" gaming is destroyed and replaced by a "domino theory" (Thompson's apparent assumption that video games not can, but WILL make you a brainless violent rapist).

5. Video games are associated with the corruption of young children, particularly their sexual corruption.

6. Both the player and retailer of video games are defined as fiends, always in search of new victims.

7. Policy options are presented as total prohibition (no one gets any video games) or total access (anyone of any age can buy any game, regardless of content).

8. Anyone questioning any of the above assumptions is bitterly attacked and characterized as part of the problem that needs to be eliminated.

The fact they're marketed (to children!) as covered by clothing indicates their manufacturer knows they've got something insidious to hide.

Someone needs to create a anti-Jack Thompson site.

... I always knew he was a little crazy, having read his earlier stuff. I also concluded he was an idiot from his continuous application of the Wall of Ignorance, but now that I see word for word what he has written...

He's always good for a laugh. At least he isnt going on about how games can cause children to think they can control random people and go on killing sprees. If he ever does, then he has gone off the deepest end possible...

The problem with the AO rating is that it is illegal to sell them in most stores i think, at least in the US. Still in this current age, the difference between a 17 and a 18 year old is small at most, one year isnt going to change too much. I wonder why Thompson doesnt go after the PARENTS that buy these games for thier "children".

It's not illegal, it's that most retail chains and outlets have a policy against carrying them.

I'm pretty positive that Jack Thompson is just an influential fundie... perhaps too influential.

What does he expect to do next? Segregate Male and Female populations until a person is 18 years old...? Ban Sex Education?

On the topic of games:

In Knights of the Old Republic 1/2 you can see a woman in her underwear...

My Response when first playing: Bloody Republic bastard (Trask Ulgo) won't shut the fuck up.

Thompson: OMGWTF TEH CHILDREN!!!!

I've just E-Mailed him my opinion...

I'm a bit concerned on your mental well-being, you seem to think that computer games will most definitely influence violence in people. I'm 17 years old, British, a Computer Student, and I play computer games almost religiously. I've played some very violent games in the past, however, my last thought after switching off the game and going downstairs to spend time with my family, was to pick up a gun and shoot them... far from it. Nor am I any more violent, if anything, in the past 7 or so years I've become less and less violent over time.
I wrote:I'm not sure where you get the Idea that playing a game can give you skill with a Gun, it's sort of like saying that the "Hack" function in Deus Ex can give you Computer Skills. Which it can't... I've never, ever fired a gun, nor do I want to, and if I ever do, I probably couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

And as for the Sims 2... The only nudity in that was added by a perverted mind who has absolutely nothing to do with Electronic Arts or Maxis. However, you cannot prosecute a company for the actions of a consumer.

As for Children playing violent games... I blame parents.

-Daniel-James MacFarlane
Those are my exact words to Thompson the Idiot.

I'm not, I'm just gauging his reaction...

He'll probably twist my words, and make me look like a Psychopath who needs to be locked up. Which I'm not, I'm merely eccentric.

He doesn't actually read his mail.

I've seen correspondences from somebody who wrote a well-written letter saying that if Thompson regulated the game industry, he should surely also make sure violent and sexual movies didn't get into people's hands either.

He got a reply calling him a "evil gamer nazi harrassing him" or some such, in nocaps. Functionally illiterate, the man is.

Hmm... makes you wonder what he's doing passing judgement on things he knows nothing about.

Wikipedia has an article

I've read the e-mails between VGCats and Thompson... he's a lying bastard.

Every time I read about Jack Thomson I get an urge to kill. Is this ground enough to put him away? I mean, what if I hurt a kid or something to blow of some steam after reading yet another article on this douchebag

Go play a few hours on Halo 2... picture Jack Thompson's face on each and every bloody elite you find, and remember: Have Fun!

Why? It doesn't do anything to bolster a reasonable argument against him, and it hands him a way to posture as a victim of persecution for his views. Why degrade yourself with such an irrational act to hand him even the possibility of sympathy?

Clearly this is proof that Jack Thompson inspires violence and needs to be censored and regulated.

Go find a lawyer.

Ask them.
