The picture does look like it is firing from the under the ball cockpit. I have watched Return of the Jedi, the final sequence five times today, and the Tie Ints were moving too damn fast to tell where any of the blasts come from, it is possible that it was fired from a tie behind it and it flew down, but it is also possible that it did fire the blast from it's cockpit, My above evidence from SW.com shows that they used practicly the original Ball cockpit, but with powerfull modifications, which leaves the possibilty of the two cannons under the Cockpit.

The space for those cannons are, but because of the extra mass required for them and the power cells to use those lasers, they were taken out.
Zooming in and out of this picture, you can clearly see the laser is emitted from the ball mounted cannon. There are no other fighters behind it fireing or to its side. The beam clearly emminates from there, also it looks like another beam is being emitted from a point below the wingtip canoon. A lesser green bolt, and if you zoom in it looks to originate from the top middle wing mount possibley confirming the existance of cannons there.
I wonder if this fighter has a computer controlled firing system. Where the pilot presses the button, but the computer or fire control system decides which cannons to fire to best hit the target and do the most damage, This would be an efficient way of maximizing your fire and conserving energey at the same time.
