Buried is one thing, E.T literally filled up a desert landfill.

I would say
Big Rigs, but the only ones who know what that is didn't until Gamespot's review, so it's not really a flop.
So I'll have to say
Advent Rising. For all the hype it was given, the game experience just did not deliver.
Shin'en is in shambles because of
Iridion and
Nanostray, but that's more of a continued thing than any one title.

Extreme Rodeo, Water Sports, and Paintbrawl top the list. Though I never played them, I felt bad for the magazine editors who were forced to in order to do their jobs.

Of course, most of those who liked it were part of the mindless masses, transfixed by its purrrrty graphics stationary on their screens, while the current frame took an eternity to be redrawn.
Let me see if I can understand this--
First,
you didn't like Doom3, but millions of gamers and a substantial majority of reviewers loved it. Of course this means that you're the only intelligent man(child) in the wide world and everybody else is "mindless." Second, because Doom3 performed badly on your system, it must have performed poorly on everybody's system. Those hours I spent playing Doom3 on my own mid-range PC at a very comfortable FPS must have been some kind of wild hallucination.
In conclusion, you're stupid. Stop trolling up the thread, fuckwit.

What is currently
City of Alamogordo Landfill, New Mexico, if my info's correct. You might want to bring a jackhammer, they poured concrete over what was left of the carts after they steamrolled them.

A much overhyped FPS from the late-nineties. It was supposed to be an epic, team-based FPS/RPG hybrid spanning millennia with mindblowing graphics.
What everyone got - after years of development limbo - was a mediocre shooter with braindamaged AI and frustrating levels.

I don't think those were even made or marketed wide enough to be even considered a flop. Really, same with the CD-i itself.
Seriously, the CD-i was barely even a blip on the radar.

The CD-i games weren't made by or approved of by Nintendo. Which is partly the reason that they sucked ass so much. To say nothing of their hideous graphics quality. *shudder*

You mean like the fact that their Animation looks like it was done by the creepy people who do all the Bible-Network 'Cartoons'?

I apologize for what may have appeared to be trolling. As the thread asked for opinions of flops, I posted one which I viewed to be such. Also, note that when referring to the "mindless masses," I specified "most." In addition, the claim of the poor engine optimization was not based on my experience alone, but also on that of several other individuals whom I know who informed me of the game's poor performance on their similar systems as well.

OK, I'll try and run through this.
The early 2000's are the days when the most flops occured.
Software - Daikatana. John Romero promised to make you his bitch. Instead his company went down the toilet and everyone urinated on him and his game as he lay weeping in the gutter.
Honourable mention - Duke Nukem Forever. I don't care when it comes out. Its going to suck. And 2000 and 2001 were the days when it was always: "It'll be out in 2 months! We promise".
Hardware - Voodoo Graphics Cards. Sure, they needed a PSU all of their own because they were so powerful, but the idiots kept sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting: "Lalalalalalala! 32bit colour doesn't exist! Lalalalalalalala!" And that is why they died - they were huge bags of shit that were a generation behind everything else and three times the price.
Honourable mention - Sega Dreamcast. A remarkable system, beautiful in every way. But unfortunately, Sega did the same thing that they have done with every other thing that have made. They didn't market it. At all. And thus is was lost under a tidal wave of shitty Sony products.

I'm still amazed people bring up Dreamcast...which was a success(given how long games were made for it both in America and Japan) versus
1. The Saturn(the $400 flop)
2. The 32X (The unredeemable pile of garbage)
3. The Sega CD. (Considered to be the first piece of proof that periphals will usually fail...horribly)
Literally the Dreamcast was Sega's last breath, and would've required it to be greater then the NES for them to dig themselves out of the hole they were in. Sega literally had no money, no ability to support anything, and thus the DC was the last system(hell anything at that point would've been unless it was the second coming.).

Also - I will say that Doom3 was actually a damn good game. Sure, some of the mechanics were bad, but to be quite honest, I have a hard time picking which I prefer between this and HL2 (mainly due to the debacle which is Steam).

The Saturn had huge commerical success in Japan. The 32x was bad.
Sega CD - just ewwww. There was nothing good about that at all.
I bring up the Dreamcast for the simple reason that they were trying to break into the market controlled by Sony and Nintendo with the PSX and N64 - and with the PS2 on the horizon, yet they didn't fucking market it.
It was a console technically superior to everything on the market, yet they tried to rely on, hell, I don't know what, in order to sell it. By all rights it should have been the dominant console until the release of the X-Box, and even then been going strong. But Sega made some really bad choices and it died because of them.

Christ, I forgot Master of Orion 3. That simply has to belong on this list, though I'm not really sure how good/bad its sales were. The series it soiled the reputation of was simply legendary and here you get this massive cesspool of glitches. Just how many transports did the computer have to build before moving on?

With what?
Seriously, you do know when the DC came out they had nothing left. Like I said, it was either to become the second coming or Sega was dead in the console world.
And while Saturn did enjoy sucess overseas, it was destroyed by PSX, and was literally dead in the US...thus the next system was going to be nothing. I mean their bad choices over in Japan were the 32X and the Sega CD...neither of which they recovered from and Sega of America?
Saturn was dead practically on arrival. They actually withheld games using a RAM/ROM cart system, during the height of the fighting game hysteria. Sega of America did everything possible to kill any possibility of success for the Saturn.
Especially when you think the last run of games for the Saturn had a run of only 5-10K copies.
The only reason I cannot consider the DC a flop given the Saturn complete lack of oversea success versus the DC. Literally the Saturn is where the ran the nail through(I mean fuck they seperated Sega of Japan and America into practically two different sides to try and revitalize stock...it was that bad) and gave Sony the green light to plow on through(Nintendo did nothing but sit and stare as they kept contending carts were all one needed.).

Ultima 9, which did make the Wikipedia list.
The most craptastic game I ever looked forward too. I grew up on Ultima 7...course 8 kinda sucked.
The game was so bad if you chopped a wolf in half, what else but gold coins popped out. The engine was unstable, the story was boring, the level design was uninspired, it was all just crap.

I had the luck of finding the just released patches on the internet within two weeks of getting the game. Honestly, I like it but for two large flaws. One, the tech tree is too dammed big, it takes for fucking ever to get the ability to burn planets (ie top of the tech tree). Indeed in my current game I have already won, my Harvesters own about a third of the galaxy, I'm just waiting for the Stellar Converter so I can make the other two thirds of the planets in the Galaxy into molten balls of rock. Actually, I should by all rights already have won that game, I'm just holding back so I can see what the most advanced techs are. Two, after you have consolidated about one third to one half of the galaxy (depending on how the enemy AI is doing, sometimes one fourth is enough), you've won. The rest is mopping-up or waiting 'till you meet the victory conditions. Basically, everything from the mid-game onwards is repetitive and boring. It's the early game exitement what keeps me from shelving the thing permanently.

Though, MoO3 did almost fix that problem with grandiose strategy games.
Player arrives with enormous fleet/armada/army. "Surrender." he declares to the opposition.
"Never!" say the opposition. Player destroys the defenders of the planet/colony/city.
"Surrender!" states the player once more.
"Never!" cry the unarmed civilians.
Player destroys the planet/colony/city.
Repeat ad nauseum.
It seems that no-one ever knows when their game is up. Though, in MoO3, the surrendering did happen a little more often than in anything else and usually under somewhat realistic circumstances.
