Someone kill that tech support.
Tech support? Why is tech support at fault here? If the company says "We don't support this processor" then how can you hold tech support responsible.

Obviously, mostly doesn't cut it.
The tech support itself is not at fault, the idiots at the top who decided not to support the SAME CPU with just less cache is to blame. My mistake at phrasing.

Again, there is no differance between these budget Semprons and the full scale Athlon 64/AthlonXP(depending on Socket). The difference is in cache which will not cause errors.

They said that AMD Semperons are NOT supported processors, so they absolutely refuse to help me. The only supported proccesors are PIII, P4, and Athlon. Even if the problem is not processor-related, they will not help me, under any circumstances, as long as I am running a Semperon, Opteron, Barton, or even Celeron.
I played RTW and BI extensively on a Celeron PC. I still use a Celeron-based PC as my primary machine, and was in fact playing BI on it last night. The limited cache will not affect its ability to run the game; only its speed. They're just looking for excuses not to help you.

You could lie to them and tell them you're running an Athlon XP.

Considering how many times he may have called them already, I'd think they know him by now.

If that were the case he could say he picked up a new CPU after they told him his old one wasn't supported.

Is your BIOS up to date? I have it on hearsay that the Sempron is an iffy for serious gaming, but the ATI should have solved any problems.

I run Dawn Of War, Civ 3, KotOR 1 and 2, and Rise of Nations just fine.
But if you still think I need a BIOS update, I would be more then happy to get one.

Yeah, I pretty much got that feeling. The tech support person said that because RTW was never tested on a Sempron, the tech support reps. could not help me with any problem I had with the game while I was playing it on that computer. I believe the reps. exact words were: "It is as if you tried to call up Microsoft because you tried to play an Xbox game on a Playstation."

And by the way, Admiral Valdemar, it was Activision Technical Support I keep getting when I call up the tech support number listed on the manual.

And lastly, I could call up tech support from my cell phone, and when they ask if I ever called them before, I could say no, and tell them I have an Athlon.

Is this a good idea?

Well, R:TW does run on Semprons. I have been scoping hardware, and sometimes it has been known to be laggy on the Sempron. Maybe you have a defective game disk, your BIOS or motherboard drivers need updating, or.... something.

If you do decide on the BIOS update, make a backup of the existing one, just in case it works out like the ATI update.

Sorry I can't offer more.

Entirely off to the side I had a similair problem (not entirely the same I never even got to the copyright info screen) with my original copy of RTW so I simply got a new set of disks and they worked perfectly without changing any of my drivers, bios, or anything. If your problem is at all similair to mine it might be defective disks though if your buddy installed and ran it previously on his computer I don't know how likely that is that they've become defective in the time between when he instaled it and when you installed it.

Perhaps the discs need cleaning? When I found my cd after two weeks, it wouldn't run. Then I took it out and saw there was a bunch of gunk on it that I had to clean off (scratched it in the process  ) and it worked after that.
