The auction ended, but more than likely the buyer will either cancel the bid or refuse to pay.
Either way, on one end or another, I say there's a gag involved.
For some of them, yes.
Sadly for many it's not. Literally it has become a small business upon any opening day for these systems. Hell small stores love doing it since, they can send enough people out to grab systems then mark them $100-$200 more because people want it that badly.

Even here in WV there were people camping out in front of the local Circuit City waiting for 7am

Waiting for an artificial shortage of a unit that has no good games out for it yet.
I don't get the novelty of "getting it first". It's just more shit you don't need, and you can certainly wait for it.

I'm not buying this damn thing until A) Some decent games come out, and B)The price is lowered by about 150 dollars.
Also, 50 dollars for a VGA cable? What the fuck? The sad thing is people will actually pay this much.
Anyways, I'd much rather save up that money for the Nintendo Revolution or a computer upgrade (not that I won't be needing one for a good while.)

Well, it doesn't seem like the problems are completely endemic (the thread on the X-Box forums is only about 25 pages long, and most of it is people talking about other peoples' problems), but this is obviously cause for concern, and I hate the attitude of some of the people over there (ie. complainers have low post-counts, so they must be lying). Obviously, if people have problems with their console they might sign up to post and ask questions about it.

All Consoles(Post N64) crash, its just more a fuckup when a console does and much more rare.

The (incredible) power on that thing right now can only be harnessed so to make games shinier. It's unbelievable value hardware for money, which seriously appeals to my geekism, but with the limited number of titles and the lack of use for that incredible machine, I'd want something more pratical. That's why I have a 5G iPod.

I would much rather see that hardware put towards better AI than to
'OMG SHINY' graphics.

Also, no comments about the 12,900 $ X-box 360?

I no longer think it was pre-planned. These shortages are causing Microsoft millions in losses.

I kind of doubt that Microsoft is losing money in the long run because of this. Gamers are just delaying their purchases of the system until later, which may actually make Microsoft more money because the price of manufacturing and distributing these systems will drop in the future.

More difficult to do though.
Shiny graphics is essentially just a case of throwing more processing power at the problem, wheras decent game AI needs incredibly careful balancing so that it forms a convincing part of the game itself.

Anyone seen a review of Perfect Dark: Zero, yet? That's the only remotely interesting game to me, only because I loved the original so much. The other games have generally gotten less-than-stellar reviews, with the possible exception of PGR, which has generally been well-received.

AFAIK there isn't much of the original Rare staff left, so you shouldn't expect a game of similar quality. Most of the talent behind their FPS's is at Free Radical.
EDIT :
I stand corrected

Also, a typical software AI must anticipate every possible move the enemy will make and compensate for it, because it's not really smart enough to think on the fly. That's why people tend to find exploits for game AI.

See, that's my thing. How many good games actually come out for a brand new system so quickly? I'll be happily using my PS2 well after the PS3 comes out. At least until GTA4 comes out.
The one exception I can think of offhand was the SNES and N64. Super Mario World and Mario 64 were both really fun to play, and IIRC came out with the system itself as a bundle.

Here is an interesting question that my econ professor asked me today for those of us who have a 360.
If the PS3 had been on shelves next to the Xbox 360, would you still have bought a 360?

Holding out for X-Play. Anyone brave enough to mock the Dynasty Warriors series is pretty honest.

...how can you NOT mock a game that has not changed in one bit literally, aside from like additions of one/two characters after about EIGHT installments?

because, m'dear Nephtys, Dynasty Warriors is held up by the multitude of it's fanwhores, as being one of the best games of it's genre, in every installment.
And they mock it....openly, publically, and completely.
I like Adam and Morgan...

Indeed, I don't know what people hate about Gamespot. They are certainly better than IGN and Gamespy.
