The only logical thing to do when facing such odds is throw your biggest and baddest weapons at them and they did not, if what you sa is true.
Something is very wrong in the logical strategic thinking from the both sides...

I got a question regarding R&D in the SW civilization.

Imagine that, we don't see huge fireballs in a vacuum. I wonder why that might be...PunkMaister wrote:A mulitgigaton explosion would have to be in the near vicinity of the blast caused by MK9 weapon from SG at the very least and nowwhere do we see such a kind of blast.Noble Ire wrote:Those screenshots are supposed to prove what, exactly? Which part of "The battleships of the core sectors may not have the range or speed to be available for these outer rim battles" did you not understand?PunkMaister wrote: Again I ask why don't we see them especially when the Republic was in such dire risk?

Some problems with your assesssment of Taris. While the close-up shots are clearly relatively weak, we don't know the exact composition or size of the structures, although it's possible to make some educated guesses. First, the scapers are most likely multi-km high, and they are most definitely made of much stronger materials than RL Earth.
Secondly, we also get a further away shot of the destruction where they are firing *much* larger blasts, which I scaled to an approximate 30 radius fireball, ie, about 40 GT.
It should be noted that this is still not very impressive by Imperial era standards, but it's certainly no megaton figures. Your assessment of the Star Forge bombardment is even weaker since we have no idea of how strong it is or if it had defensive shields, only that it was quite big.

Leaving alone the stupidity of expecting fireballs in a vacuum, why pray tell should directed energy weapons hitting a shield generate any fireball at all?
Especially in vacuum?

Ok now I'm even more confused because it had always been my understanding that as long as a ship had hyperdrive it would have no problem reaching any part of their galaxy I mean even General Grievious own scape pod was able to go into hyperspace to wind up in a rim planet far away from the core where the initial battle took place. If a damn scape can do that why the hell n ot a damn battleship?AniThyng wrote:Which part of "The battleships of the core sectors may not have the range or speed to be available for these outer rim battles" did you not understand?PunkMaister wrote: Again I ask why don't we see them especially when the Republic was in such dire risk?

Not only that, but he was headed directly to a TF battleship, and you can see it as he approachs it.Crazedwraith wrote:Prove it. The novel further supports this by saying he was on a Genosian Dreadnaught as they approached Utapau

In addition to that, it is stated in the Essential Chronology, and in one of the game's loading screens that hyperspace travel outside certain routes is still dangerous because stellar cartographers haven't fully mapped all of the hazards to travel off the main "highways". Even if the speeds didn't change, it might take five times as long for a heavy ship to get from point A to point B, depending on where the points were.Crazedwraith wrote:Prove it. You're also forgetting that the thing that was special about the Acclamator's and later clone wars era ships was not that they were particularly *powerful* compared to previous warships, but because they were built with operational ranges on a galactic and not sectorial scale.PunkMaister wrote:I honesly remembered the scape pod going into hyperspace and not just doking intoa nearby ship but yes in the movie he does arrive in a shuttle. This all ignores the fact that engineering and science are two different things.
As AniThyng pointed out, Acclamators were the first ships to be designed to operate on a galactic scale. Imperator and Executor-class Star Destroyers are larger than Acclmators and Venators, but they aren't more technologically advanced. They simply have different design parameters. Likewise, the Death Star's superlaser, for example, is not a feat of technological innovation, though it certainly has greater yield than a heavy turbolaser.
It's possible that the ships and weapons are smaller due to the social and political climate of the era; huge ships armed to the teeth with hundred-gigaton weapons may be frowned upon, or perhaps even downright banned.
Btw, General Grievous' escape pod can clearly be seen approaching a Trade Federation Lucrehulk-class battleship. Did you miss this? Ah yes, you mentioned you remember the escape pod going into hyperspace. Interesting.

Coming to think of it I think I'm mixing up Grievious scape pod with that one from Anubis in SG which did have hyperspace capability.Cykeisme wrote:This all ignores the fact that engineering and science are two different things.
