Solutions that will magically work? No. Are you trying to say that we are not permitted to criticize, state our opinions, etc. unless we can forcibly solve the problems we identify? Why not? The first step to any solution is identifying the problem. No one says "stop identifying the problem unless you have the complete solution already".SWPIGWANG wrote:Considering how many groups of people and ideas are slammed in this forum, does any of you have any solutions to them or all you are going to do is whine?
So what should we do?

DW, according to fundies, that is exactly what you are saying when, in response to their challenges to evolution, you ask them to come up with a better theory. Not that there's not a slight difference (specifically, that they're trying to say creationism is the only alternative as opposed to legitmately solving the problem), but you should learn to say that explicitly in order to avoid encountering a wall of ignorance.Darth Wong wrote:Solutions that will magically work? Not remotely applicable. A theory is only a descriptive model, which we are already providing in this case. SWPIGWANG is saying that it's not enough to describe the situation; we must somehow fix it. This is not remotely similar to telling a creationist that he can't dismiss a theory unless he's got a better one. There is a gigantic difference between a practical solution and a theory.data_link wrote:DW, according to fundies, that is exactly what you are saying when, in response to their challenges to evolution, you ask them to come up with a better theory. I can see three solutions to the whole mess:
#1) status quo: obviously, it's not working very well.
#2) make the occupied territories part of Israel and make all their occupants citizens.: obviously, not palatable for either the Israelis or the Palestinians.
#3) create a Palestinian state: dubious as a solution because the Palestinians want 100% of the West Bank and Gaza, and the Israelis will never pull out the settlements to give them 100% (not to mention depending on Gaza for 1/3rd of their water supply.)
So, there you have it... options 1, 2, and 3 are all quite controversial. I have to agree with everyone who's said that peace and a solution will have to be imposed on them from the outside
