The Problem with the NR really is more or less the governments moronitude.

Basically they give a government that does have a sizable fleet the brains of slug and the strife that the waning days of the OR seemed to enjoy and then add in a nutty group of fanatics that scream and bellow like Klingons with Imperial level weaponry.

Yeah a true commander would mopped them up and many times Nom Anor has said the Imperials would've kicked ass and taken names.

So like Ender pointed out they had dupe #1(Shesh) and an inept gov't lose Coruscant and more than 2/3 of the galaxy...hopefuly this will either end the EU or something(my dislike for NJO stems a great deal of my general distaste for the messiah children...the Solo brats)

And then each sector had its own shipyard so that repairs could be made there. And then there were the deepdocks.

Each sector group has 2 deepdocks, with up to 125 bays. Each bay can service/construct a Strike class cruiser(450m) 9 bays can be put together to service/construct a Victory, and 15 bays can service/construct an ISD

Where does all this info come from, btw?

Now THAT's a shipyard! If it has planets inside it, then it must be one big mother... And privately owned... Take that Boeing!

Ummmm, can we use this on ST debates?

My one question, is why in the hell would there be a planet inside?

It was held by the Kuat family soley(as well as they were the designers of the ISD Mark 1 and 2 as well as the SSD, and all such variations then such...even I believe the current Republic Star Defenders)
Kuat Drive Yards was somewhat nationalized by the Empire.

The Kuat family is largest stockholders, but generally the company is controlled by the Kuat planetary aristocracy which also rule the system government.

It is not owned by just the family.

They did not design the SSD persay, but contracted Wessex under their auspices to design the ISDs and the SSD. Despite Wessex (can't remember her first name) having designed to SSD for KDY, the first (Executor) was built at Fondor.

I sincerely doubt that there is a Dyson Sphere in Kuat System. There's little-to-no-evidence to suggest that's what it is and no support IIRC in EU references to Kuat. That's probably one of the many huge artifical planetoids (old space stations size of DS at least and probably larger) that orbit the sun.

Also, the New Republic appears to have severe issues w/ decentralization and doesn't appear to be galaxy-spanning.

The Outer Rim is likely mostly just allies and protectorates and neutrals as it is, and Senate probably thought they could just sell out the non-members out there until it was too late--remember that Sernpidal has been turned into basically the Vong Kuat.

Amen to that, I'd just love to see the YV massacre once those babies started producing for full scale war. I betcha those bad boys could make a dozen ISDs a day, and I'm probably under-exaggerating.
More likely that it would produce about four hunded in a couple of months, as batch production.

Well since the NR has finally warmed up the military machine that's been atrophying since the end of the Galactic Civil War, the Vong have payed dearly--they made it appear in Destiny's Way that the NR machine is back up to speed and the YV can't possibly win the war now. I want to read a synopsis of the next novel to see how badly the YV burn.

Finally.

Sadly I was wondering...given that supposedly they made some improvement over the ISD(well shield tech wise...the Star Defender is supposed to be a combination of Calamari Cruiser multi shield generator and back ups with ISD designs)

Though how supposedly the improved X-Wing is faster(no idea how much so...and one extra torpedo laucher)

So any ideas of whether or not any final extermination of the Vong or are they going to intergrate them into SW society?

They'll probably be rehabilitated or something like that. They've alluded to a coup by the oppressed working class, the Shamed Ones, within YV culture.

The Star Defender is a Mon Cal design that's the New Republic's commandship vessel. It is to the NR Defense Force what the Executor class was to the Imperial Starfleet.

Saxton estimates it may even approach the Executor is mass and length.

The Deepdock information can be found in the old WEG Imperial Sourcebook. It possessses a great deal of information on the size of the Imperial Army & Navy (Order of Battle) as well information on COMPNOR as well as the various intelligence agencies, etc.

Imperial Sourcebook I'm guessing--height of the Empire. But I would guess that they're usually used for repairs and such, not major shipbuilding.

Expeditionary forces like Thrawn's fleets might have used them for actual full-scale shipbuilding though.

I'd like any official quotes there are to be had on the Kuat Drive Yards and other major ship yards please.

I'll check Shep's posting of it.

1. How do we know thats the entire ship yard and that it looks like that?
2. Where is it said to be system spanning? This I want quotes on.

At least we know know who built the Dyson Sphere. 8)

Of course, the picture simply matches the stuff I've read about the Kuat system before, but it's nice. A thousand words and all that.

Is it me or is the ISD's shadow falling on the shipyard (circled in red)? I'm pretty ignorant on the behavior of light in this case but if Kuat encompasses a system, can a (relatively) small object like an ISD cast a shadow that large?

And the shadow does seem to be from the ISD, because of the triangular shape and the part circled in blue.

Just how old is Kuat Drive Yards?

I think you fail to realise that the ISD is INSIDE the drive yard structure and is exiting through a circular port to the exteriod.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but given the manpower, couldn't Kuat defeat the Empire? Given it's ability to produce the Empires vast quantity of warships, as well as ships for nonwarships, I think that if Kuat were to plan in advance they could build enough starships to crush the empire, given the manpower.

This alone makes any trek debate puny and insignificant. I mean, a fucking CORPORATION can crush the empire and we all know what the empire can do to the trek galaxy..

But then, that's like saying if Boeing constructed enough planes they could take over the US. Which they could. .. Oh my.

I'm sorry; I'm a little confused. Is the ring-type thing with teh brownish land the yard or is the yard the blueish thing with protrusions at the exterior of the picture?
