I once saw someone say something to the effect of "battle.net is the Mos Eisley of online gaming". I've never been myself, but I don't doubt it.

Best thing to do is to find a good group of people to play with, and stick with them. If you want to play a map, make sure some of them are with you. Then you can enjoy a good game even if some of the other people are complete asshats, and you got a pal to help if you get backstabbed.
Personally, I never play StarCraft on b.net anymore. It's all
StarCraft Team Fortress for me now. Makes playing multiplayer fresh and exciting, what with having to develop completely new tactics and stuff.

But insane computer alone isn't too bad.
Its when there are two of them that things get hot fast, you had better prey its at least an island map.
I had Zerglings and he had Battlecruisers it took hours too get 3 comps down and the last two were whachos. It was quite fun.

There is a reason why I stopped playing in pubby games mostly. It's because They're annoying, and I found a nice group of people to play D2 with.

I remember being on B.net 3 days after I bought Diablo. Had to finish the single player campaign first.
It was fresh, fun, and met a lot of nice people in the beginning. Had lots of fun talking in chat rooms about the game or life in general.
That did not last more than a month or two before it degenerated into hackers and stupid white kids from the mid-west posting "WEST SIDE" every 2 seconds.

anarchistbunny, I feel for you. On Starport33 I recently posted this under their rants section.
I was just playing on battle.net as the Night-elves of War3 in a 2v2. Anyway, my bloody ally completley fortified himself into his base (he was playing the Alliance). And my enemies (who both happened to be orcs) must of realised this and so they both came at me with taurens led by tauren chieftens. Grr!
My damn ally wouldn't help no matter just how much I asked him to. They cut off my choke point so I ran out of gold so my plans for a war of attrition was over. I lost. Grr!
I watched the last of the match as an observer. The orcish allies completley expanded over the rest of the map so their heroes were really powerful and they had tons of gold. Then I noticed that they were using the neutral Dragon roost to build an army of Red Dragons. They just poured over the cliffs of my 'ally' and estroyed him. So much for teamwork.
I hate having to rely on others.
Never discount the stupidity of others.

Just got War3, have yet to have a bad experience.
Does anyone here know how not to get absolutely demolished? 'Cause I sure don't.

Cheat.
Or...sacrifice tech and more peons for soldiers. Lots of time the comp will rush with large numbers of troops. Early in the game, quantity is better than quality.
Oh, and get a hero as soon as possible and kick the crap out of some creeps. Heroes > Crappy early game units.

I have rarely played Internet games. Way back in the days of QuakeWorld, I discovered that just one out of twenty gamers can ruin a game, and there's more than enough assholes out there to do that.
Take RTCW for example, where there are so many jack-asses who gleefully kill their teammates that half the servers have friendly fire turned off. Or the dreaded camper syndrome in all FPS games.

Or spamming explosives. That always sucks.

I find Quake 3 to be a good online game. It's popular enough so that there's enough games to go around but it's not so popular that there's a load od assholes playing it. I don't play it that much but I've had no problems.

Mine runs quite choppy too. Alot of gits on the gaming sites like to flood your pings.

Yeah, the killing of teammates is a bitch and what pisses me off is that I like playing with friendly fire off because it creates a sense of realism and you won't just go crazy shooting everything you see without checking twice.

I remember this idiot on b.net I had a conversation with about cruise missiles:
Idiot: Russian weapons suck. USA rules!
Me: Well, the SS-N-19 isn't a bad missile. Name one American cruise missile that has a 200km range and flies at Mach 2.
Idiot: Name one that doesn't
Me: Harpoon: 80km range and subsonic speed
Idiot: Are you one of those anti-American Canucks?
Me: And what does that have to do with cruise missiles?
Idiot: I don't know. Quit changing the subject.

It needs a lot of RAM, 128 doesn’t cut it in my experiance. It ran choppy at some points on my 1gig system with 16 Megs of video ram and 128 normal. My friend had an almost identical system but with 256 and it ran extremely well even as very high resolutions.
Once I got 384 ram everything was fine.

I've got 256 and it's uite bad at some times, plus the sound cuts out every so often. I may need an upgrade.

Once I was playing tribes 2 online at a cousin's house. I was new and I accidently detonated a tactical nuke inside the base, killing everyone.
